The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
1.) I've been to tracks before, I've just never gone down one. Is this really a good time to break my cherry, or would I just be wasting your time?
2.) My ride is a stock 1998 A4 vert, with a couple bolt-ons riding on run-craps. I'm not really bringing anything to the table here so again, would I just be wasting your time?
3.) Having not had any experience, would any of you guys mind sorta taking me under your wing, and showing me what to do? I printed out the track rental guidelines, but what the heck are tech cards?; no antifreeze in cars??; numbering the car?

I'm going with my father who recently bought a track car, but who has been out of the drag racing scene for many years. The relaxed environment will allow him to get used to the car without the crowds and rush of regular street night.
As for your car, I wouldn't give it a second thought. You would go to practice your technique, learn some tips, watch some fast cars and have a good time.
Finally, I'm sure there'll be many racers there to guide you along. I'll have my hands full with my dad, but I wouldn't be the best one to coach you anyway. There'll be many more knowledgeable racers there to help you out, I'm sure.
Hopefully, there's a spot for you and you can make it

We're planning to go - Although I can see we haven't paid yet (that needs to be in a larger font).
If you need any assistance with taking a pass, feel free to ask. It might even be worth your while to take a slow pass down the track before taking your first "real" pass, just to see where the finish line is, where to turn off, etc., with zero pressure to run quickly.
Feel free to ask for any assistance you would like. We have a purple/black C5 (me and my wife).
Your questions:
1) It's a great time to run your car and there is no one's time to waste (as mentioned, no rush, no lines to stage, etc.)... It's all about you.
2) You waste no one's time. It's not a race, not even a Test & Tune... No rush. You can walk down the track if you like and not even run your car... Take a five minute pass, it's all good.
3) Most everyone would be happy to help. Feel free to ask any questions you have. You need to follow some simple safety rules for your car, such as having the right helmet. You go to an inpsector with your helmet and car after you fill out a "tech card" that someone will give you (maybe Gary can tell us how we get tech cards or do we just go straight to tech as I do not know). The inspector will then give you the okay to drive your car on the track. You can get someone to assist with this at the track if you have questions.
If you car has license plates, is registered, etc., don't worry about antifreeze. This typically applies to unregistered race cars, which are asked to run water only. Reason: If you break a line, it's a disaster for them to cleanup antifreeze (takes a very long time). So, just make sure your car is in good working condition.
If you do break during a pass, immediately pull over to the side: Do not keep going down the track. Stop and shut her down, off to the side: This lessens any cleanup that may be needed.
The Tech inspector will give you a number that will then appear on your timeslip. He will write the number on your car (usually on the back, driver's side window). Or, one of us can do that for you. It goes on (glass) with stuff that wipes right off.
Do make sure you bring the right safety equipment. I've put a quick reference online at: http://www.efiracing.com/images/2011...-reference.jpg -- Look at the line item on helmets to make sure your's is acceptable.
Dave,
A large font was utilized to show appreciation for those who have paid already. Conversely, if a large font was used to point out the people who did not pay as of yet, feelings may be hurt. Jay can attest that we are a group that is sensitive to everyone.

I know Jay, in particular, is a sensitive guy. He still OWES ME $25 which I will be sensitive about

Thanks!

If Jay decides to join this rental, perhaps we can assist you in collecting said funds.

This thread went to places that even I wouldn't take it.... any greater discount for 4somes?

Never really thought about the whole lack of crowd thing.
