Default LS6 Upgrade Opinons

Hey everyone. I had a valve spring failure and now have the mota out and ona stand. While its out im looking to upgrade where reasonable. A shopping list per se.....(HP:$). Cam and headers for sure and ARP rod bolts. Other than the rod bolts, due to the expense I'd rather leave the bottom end alone/stock. However, id really like to get the HP of the C6 ZO6's or more. The head where the valve dropped may not be repairable. IDK yet but if its shot then im lookin at replacing at least one head. If i have to replace a head im open to replacing both with the "right" heads to help me get the HP im lookin for. so heres the question...What do I need to buy? what cam? heads or head work? what else? what id really like to hear is from guys who have done this, what they did to thier mota and what kinda HP numbers did they get.

Thanks for any info or help.

Matt

Basically guys im looking for a recipe. I need to know what ingrediants to buy to get me at 500 HP or better. Not generic terms like "a cam" but what brand and model? There are some here that have built thier LS6's to badazz specs. I need to pick your brain. Im looking at top side mods mostly (heads, cam, headers, etc,) not bottom end mods (boring, pisotns, rods, crank, etc) and the most HP:$ that i can get. Again i really appreciate any help or info.

i would get your 243's ported, if money is not too tight id go with a f.a.s.t intake but you already have the ls6 intake which flows really good but the fast intakes will make about 20hp more. as for cam id go something in a mid 220's low 230's set up on a 112 or 114 lsa if you have a good tuner id go 112 lsa and right around .600 lift max. a really good valve springs and very affordable are the pac 1218's and theyre max lift is at .600 and they use your stock retainers and locks which is a plus... as for your rockers if theyre in good shape i would just leave them alone. pushrods aslong as you dont mill the heads just go for some comp pro mag stock lenght 7.400 or to keep the valvetrain quiet as some say go with a 7.425 lenght.

the thing is im a fan of a smaller cam with low end torque, but it all depends on what your goal is and what kind of driveability you seek out of it. if you want a excellent driver a mild cam with a higher lsa 114-116 would be good. if you dont care about driveability and like it very rough and choppy and want to rev it to the moon then by all means there are plenty of combos out there that make good power up on top end. cams like ms3,ms4,g5x4 etc make awesome power up top and require shifting pretty high in the rpm range. cams like comp 224/228, tr224, g5x1 and g5x2,f11 etc dont require to be reved so much and make excellent low end torque. again it all depends on what kind of driveability you are looking to get out of it. your 500hp level your trying to seek out is very doable at crank power level. if your looking to get 500rwhp then i suggest start looking into a forced induction (supercharger/turbo) set up.
