Went to local Corvette shop today. I asked about doing 3.42s and a 3200 Yank converter. I am running Michelin run flats. The counter guy said it would spin a lot with those tires. Is it worth doing with the run flats? No drag racing just want a quicker street car. Right now it has 2.73 gears a street tune and a CAI. How would it launch from say a 25mph roll with those mods? Should I get the hardened output shaft? The engine will never be opened up for mods bolt ons only
3.42s and a 3200 stall will almost transform the car completely from where it is right now.

I think it is.
Run flats are of course a HUGE convenience in the event of a flat tire so that peace of mind is worth the sacrifice in traction for some.
But I'd still rather have the stickier drag radial/non run flat tire for better grip personally.

It will launch very well from that speed (or higher) but anything slower than that on street tires will very likely result in a notable loss of traction/excessive wheel spin.

You probably don't need it (unless your current one is cracked/twisted, though it likely isn't) but it will provide an added measure of strength just in case you do add more power later on.
What shop did you go to? Horsepower sales is a good shop in ft lauderdale. Roger Preston is the guy to talk to about it.
A converter and 3.42s will be a very nice upgrade. It your getting your diff built, may as well get hardened shafts. A little piece of mind in the event you want to go to PBIR for the muscle car challenge series. Or even if you just want to take a couple passes to see what it will do.
BTW- remember to add a trans cooler as well, don't want your trans temp above 200*
I also love the Yank and that is what I run in my Silverado. I am going on year 6 with the same converter. However, lots of the truck guys also run the Circle D and love them.
with a good tire you should be able to put your foot down hard and not worry. when i had my 3.42 and 3200 vig and the only supporting mods were headers and cai, catback in the spring and summer i could slam it at 25mph on a 295x 35x 18 bfg dr that i would run on the street and at track. i would also drop the tire pressure down to 26lbs. insulted a lingenfelter built s/c vette back then he spun and i won on a little light to light challenge it pissed mr 600hp 20k build off a little. especially since i only had about350 rw but the gears and tires did the trick on the street.

Well, if you like the looks of the C5, and the power of the C6, the answer is simple. Mod your C5 and enjoy. You can always drop an LS3 (or something better) into your car in the future.
I run a circle D converter, 3800. It works awesome. Chris is a good guy to deal with. I build transmissions and have purchased several converters from him with no issues. My car with headers, CAI, tune, 3800 converter, 3.42 gears and DR's has gone 11.95 @ 115. You will love it.

Was at the HorsePower Sales of Florida shop today. Got my race harness set, ordered my WELD wheels race rims, AND gonna have Jeremy tune it for a 200 shot with the NANO nitrous sytem.
Once yours is done ask Roger for the race schedule, come out and play at the track. Lots of fun, no pros.
