Default Track time

So went to the track yesterday for the first time owning the 99 frc

Did a 2.2 60' at 13.9 @ 100mph elevation 1165

Anybody have any hints for me on the run i did 13.9 it i launched around 3000rpm and no spin but first gear is terrible and is really slow. Have to literally play catch up

You might want to get that car on a dyno to make sure it's making power. The MPH looks like you may be down a little in that department.

how is the car currently running? What rpm were you shifting at?

I took my FRC to the track for my first time ever when it was bone stock... I left off the line like a normal stop light then hammer down. Terrible 60ft something like a 2.5-2.6 and ended up running 13.8 @ 107 or 108 I don't remember. I'll dig the slip out tomorrow and check but it "should" be faster than that

yes I understood that! My question was referring to what RPM you shifted from 1st to. 2nd.. 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th.

Default How to ?

So I've never been to a drag strip with my car, but thinking about doing this. And reading alot about people slippithe clutch the first 10 feet or so. How is this accomplished. When I play on the street I just dump it at 2500 rpm and modulate throttle to keep it from just sitting there spinning the tires. Also whats better on the drag strip, tc on or competitive mode. Most likly will be on street tires if I do go. Just really don't want to look as stupid as I am, or brake first time at starting line because of my ignorance.
Thanks all
Larry

The 1/8th mile mph to 1/4 mile mph is what concerns me. You were at 1100 feet but the density altitude could have been much higher, however with a nearly 84mph 1/8th I'd like to have seen at LEAST a 105mph in the 1/4 as these cars typically pick up 20+ and usually around 25+ for the Z06's.

I picked up some new tr5 spark plugs gapped them at 40 and waiting on some msd wire to come in and ill see if that helped any. Spark plugs were kinda wight and the wires were pretty much glued to the spark plugs.

I found a (very) old link, showing results of a '99 FRC here

http://www.z06vette.com/forums/f10/1...r-coupe-58124/

2.108 short times

8.719 @ 83.66 to the 1/8-mile (similar to your MPH)

13.342 @ 106.39 to 1320' (gain of almost 23 MPH on the back-half)

* * *

for what it's worth, the '82 shown in my signature routinely picked-up 18-20 MPH the last 660' of the track, with (I suspect) much-less power

May be running lean looking at those plugs. If you are getting knock, it will be pulling timing. This can contribute to a low trap speed. As suggested, you may wish to get a good dyno tune.

Read this. Ranger has probably taught most of us on this forum when first starting out.

Launch Tips will provide great insight.

BTW- Dumping the clutch on a well prepped track will most likely give you wheelhop and several broken parts. I would strongly recommend staying away from dumping the clutch.

Get it tuned up. That's got to help. However, if you're still way down on MPH and the 1/8th to 1/4 MPH gain is a big indicator here, get to a dyno and see what's going on with the power. Get an A/F readout throughout the RPM band and you can see if it's nosing over at high RPM and if it's leaning out or going stupid rich for some reason causing this. I know a complete dyno tune won't be cheap but a pull with A/F readout will tell you a whole lot and won't cost an arm and a leg.

Tomorrow my msd wires and it will be back together. I was checking the old spark plugs and they are gapped way more than 40 i know that probably wouldnt have anything to do with being lean but that might be one thing
