C5 (noZ) proven recepie
Hi
i wanted to get a couple actual experiences
about moding the ls1 on a non z c5
1st of all
Planned in NA.
cam. & tune ...and headers if they really make a decent difference . exhaust will be catback only i am in cali and have to visualy be smog legal...lol
So regarding cam
I like it agressive & nasty the car will be aweekend warrior mainly. Mpg doesnt matter
I read alot about certain cam companies
but would like to get a recent 2018 update on. What cam can get me the most nasty power + tune.
a custom cam can be intersting if its in the same range as a of the shelve.
of course i will upgrade springs accordingly.
Do i need 243/799 heads or stock?
I think i head about moded 5.3 heads with bigger valves as a option too?
Headers will be simple longtubes if i decide too.
Any suggestions.

Your question is to broad. Whats your budget?
Budget heads? LS6 from The Race Engine Shop (Forum Sponsor and some of the smartest C5 builders)
No budget? Trickflow or AFR.
I dont live in Cali so I dont know what you can get away with in terms of smog and exhaust.
Good cam specs dont change, companies just take the cam specs that are proven and change them by a degree or two and rename them. New lobes every year that make more power than the last blah blah marketing blah blah.
If you go with trickflows talk with BTR (Brian designed the Trickflows). I ran a 235/242 110+4 with the 215 CNC Trickflows and it ran fantastic.
If you go with cnc'd ls6 heads or other stock heads, get a custom cam from the company that cnc'd the heads.
Talk with the shop about your goals with the cam. What you want for sound and the power band you want
Or skip all of this and call Andy or Josh at A&A Superchargers and get their smog legal kit

Burning Brakes
Plan the entire package together. A cam profile for factory exhaust manifolds looks entirely different then a cam for long tubes. Cam specs need to match the heads too. Don't forget about the other parts "while you're in there"...timing chain, oil pump, lifters, trays, balancer (at least pin it). Valve springs and pushrods are a must with a new cam.

Im 99% going to use longtubes..
Springs. Timing chainetc will be replaced of course.

Realistically? A cam only z06 c5 makes 410 to 440, so expect to make that with stock ls6 intake and heads with a cam. Ported ls1s will make 420 to 450 with a ls6 intake.
Theres a ton of stuff to factor though in terms of price and power output.

Any proven cams ou there with
ls6 intake + ported ls1 heads
Ls6 intake+ 243 heads
+ longtubes
