Default Been LONG time now im back

What's up old timers. I sold my c5 back in 2012 or 2013 and last weekend I flew up to Hendrick Porsche and purchased a one owner 2011 Grand Sport, cyber grey, two tone black/grey interior, mag ride, 6MT, NPP, grey wheels and it's bone stock and only has 16k miles. I need to clean the car up as I had a 9 hour drive from Charlotte to south Florida, but will post pictures once I clean it back up. I am also hoping to get a tour of Ricks private collection, that's kind of been set in motion but I was told no guarantees. Three hours into the ride I pulled the NPP fuse and it sounds pretty darn good stock with the baffles open. First round of mods is going to be PPF and mild to wild switch, then will do catted headers and tune. Will also be doing plugs/wires/air filter prior to modding. Hope to see some old faces in this thread!

Congrats on the C6GS! I bought one a few years to autocross/Time Trial in SCCA stock class, agree it sounds good stock with NPP mufflers open. Took it to the track and bolted on 275 drag radials on the C5Z fronts along with some CTS spares up front and was surprised it went mid 11s@almost 120. Hopefully I don’t get banned for posting this in the C5 section owning a C6 now, I do miss my FRC at times if it’s any consolation.

thats awesome, nice to see someone getting good times out of a grand sport. The c6 GS feels very similar to my c5 that had 3.90 gears. I was shocked to see how slow guys with 6 speeds were running. It’s basically the same car as my c5 but with an extra 40-50whp bone stock, which makes me think if I ever do decide to drag race again I should easily be able to get the car in the mid 11s bone stock with a tire. I just hate breaking stuff, I broke everything possible in the c5 other than the engine.

Thanks, yeah the gearing is like a C5Z or base C5 with 3.90s. The power to weight is similar to the C5Z06 as it has more power though heavier and a little less aerodynamic. The beefier rear end and trans output shaft being from the Z06/ZR1 should give you less troubles as I hear you on breaking numerous things on my C5 as well.

Really slow these days. I have a C7Z now and there are only a couple 1/4 mile guys to talk to. Nothing like the old days on C5 /C6 racing..
Pretty sad.

That’s crazy. Congrats on the c7z I really like them. What’s done to it? Did Gary get a new c7z too? Thought I read about him asking questions specific to that car

Thx, nothing done yet but new race rims came in and waiting on backordered tires. I want some good baseline runs before I start any mods. 10.5 wide on rear and 5" on front rims.

Yeah Gary has had his to the track a couple times working on how to launch that thing the best.

I'll be curious to see how Gary does with that car. Im sure launching them is significantly harder than a NA car.

Tall gearing and more weight makes it difficult as you can really see in this video, but atleast it has a better clutch than the C6ZR1 and Bruce got it to work with the same non drag friendly gearing. Need to swap trans with someone who has a C7GS that road races as the 2.26 would be better for them and their 2.97 better for the drag strip.

Car is extremely heavy at 3860 lbs. race weight. Trying to get used to street tires again. (Have not ran street tires since the C5Z days somewhere around 2007, iirc.) Third pass out, she went 11.21 at 125.45 on a 1.82 sixty foot. That was on the OEM Cup2s.

The Cup2s have a very short life. Since Michelin was not producing those tires due to COVID-19, my rear tires have been on order since 9/4/2020. Went with the Toyo R888Rs for now. They are very noisy but have great grip. These are even taller than the OEM which does not help with that 2.29 first gear. We'll see how long they last. After speaking with Bruce, the car went an 11.05 at 126.08 on a 1.75 sixty foot. (Shifting into 4th in the traps artificially lowered the trap speed.) Car is bogging much less. Thanks Bruce.

Biggest mistake was putting Rob's 398 race motor in the C6Z and having no real full time help to speak of.
Constant problems and headaches.
I finally succumbed to it and let her go.
As for the C7Z, it's just a great car.
Enjoy riding with my wife with the top down and stereo up.
It handles like a go kart.
Ergonomics of the interior are so much nicer than the previous Vettes.
Great looking car but I'm still trying to get use to the tail lights.
Perhaps it may run as quick as the Bolt-On C5Z, if not, oh well.
