So after a few months of owning my micro four thirds camera i realized i didnt use it much because at the end of the day it was awesome and compact just not compact enough to fit in a pocket. So i sent it off for trade in. I bought it on CL and am getting offered what i paid for the gear so no money lost! That being said, I am Faced with a choice on what to purchase with that trade value. My two options from what I’ve seen that they have that I may want is as follows:
A 1.4 teleconverter which with trade would only cost an additional $30-$40
or
the sigma 105 macro which with trade would be an additional $200 ish
I have never done macro and it’s something I want to try, but I do a lot of birds and I feel like the tele converter could be helpful.

thoughts?
My answer would change pending on how often you shoot both styles and what lens you are putting the TC on and/or what are your shooting conditions.
What I mean is TC on a fast/relatively fast lens with a good AF system shooting with a lot of natural light it can work well....however on a cheaper lens and slower lens (Aperture wise) , that may already have sub optimal AF system and shooting in lower light a TC may be much more of a hindrance than what it is worth.
A Macro lens (especially if fast like an f2.8) is pretty versatile as it would not only double as a good portrait lens as well. That said you also don't need a dedicated macro lens either as you can get by with extension tubes as well.
To me it boils do to (not only the comments I made above) but in the most simplistic of terms...Do you want to have a tool that can help you out with something you already shoot or do you want a tool that can open up the door to a whole new genre of photography? Only you can really answer that question.
So tamron just announced a new macro lens that is supposed to blow the current offerings away. So i went with the teleconverter for my trade and will pick up the tamron hopefully on a black friday deal.
