what A/C delco oil filter for 1999 vette
|
Pf46e
|
I use the PF46
|
The PF46"e" is the improved version of the PF46.
ACDelco has announced a redesigned Original Equipment (OE) oil filter that offers ACDelco's exclusive DuraguardŽ media in a smaller package. The new OE filter applications PF46E, PF47E, PF52E and PF61E will be installed in applicable new GM models. The new oil filter features: Increased efficiency and higher burst and collapse strength (Fig. 5, A) A new Nylon core that provides better flow characteristics and improved collapse strength (Fig. 5, B) A full cover baseplate that allows easy installation in blind applications (Fig. 5, C) Duraguard media, ACDelco's trademarked synthetic cellulose-blended media that efficiently filters particles as small as 10 microns -- 1/3 the width of a human hair -- to ensure a clean supply of oil to engine components (Fig. 5, D) A combination relief and anti-drainback valve that prevents dry starts and assures oil flow (where applicable) (Fig. 5, E) In addition to the new OE design oil filter applications, the original filters (PF46, PF47, PF52 and PF61) continue to be available in a classic design. |

PF46E is garbage made by Champion Labs. I wouldn't hit a dog in the a$$ with one.
Look at a Wix, Purolator, Napa Gold (Wix). |

If you have evidence to the contrary, you may want to elaborate. If not then your comment is worthless. |
"Improved"??
Taken from a Silverado/Sierra discussion forum. You be the judge..... "E-cores" (the filters with the "E" suffix) use cardboard endcaps, verses an endcap made from other materials, that might not be as easy to recycle. There are other differences as well". If this is indeed accurate, then it appears that the EPA is reaching even further into the automotive field, and interested more in landfills, than the longevity of our vehicles. |

All filters ending with the prefix "E" have plastic internals instead of the original metal! |

This post throws some light into this:

When I left GM it was PF 44.
the "E" stands for Ecore.... its a cheaper version of a standard metal core filter. the Ecore has a plastic element cage, compared to a metal one. the PF 44 was replaced with a PF 46, which is what I use now. |
Wix 51042 (gold) or 51042XP (Extreme Duty).
Acceptable (the same filters, "house branded") Napa 1042 (Gold) or 41042 (Platinum, equivalent to 51042XP). The C6 I work on gets the Platinum/XP version always. |

It is right from Delco. They explained what the (e) filter was. It was an improved version of the old filter.

Wow! Being a new forum member I am amazed at the answers to a simple oil filter question. I love it!
But, I wonder what kind of responses a person would get if he asked what kind of toilet paper was the best? Me, I used the PF46E filter on my 2003 C5 and Scott tp on the other. So far, both receiving units are still functioning flawlessly! |
