Default Trailer Hitch ?!?!?!?!

I know trailer hitch is a bad word.and bla, bla, bla......but I like to drive my vette to different events ets and there is just not enough room to carry everything needed. I am going to the BBORR in April and I can't get what I need and a passanger in with me. I need a eazy up shade, lawn chairs, ice chest, will you need beer etc. food....will not necessary but nice...when out on the course all day being a course worker and a couple changes of cloths.

If I could find someone going maybe they could carry my stuff for me if not I need a trailer hitch to tow a small-motorcyle type trailer with. Any thoughts or where to get one.......or anyone going with some extra room. Thanks Paul

You will loose 50 HP if you install a trailer hitch, honest!

With a little ingenuity / effort, you could get most of that stuff inside a coupe WITHOUT a trailer.

Instead of a huge ice cooler, get a few smaller ones... and don't take so much ice. You need not take too much beer or food along either, you can always buy more once you arrive... yeah, the beer and food is more expensive to buy at the event, but it's WAY less expensive than buying and dealing with a trailer.

Lawn chairs... they make some now that fold up real small, you need to go to a sporting goods store and see what's available. I have some here that I think would definitely fit in my coupe trunk with no problem, with plenty of room to spare. They may not be as comfortable as huge lounge chairs, but they do the job just fine.

In my coupe, I packed enough clothes for TWO people for a THREE week trip, plus a few extra pairs of hiking boots, cold weather coats AND two full face motorcycle helmets... and STILL had enough room to store the roof in the back! Yes, it took some careful study and planning to get it all to work, I bought soft travel bags that fit just right etc... it can be done.

If you do not care about storing the roof in the back, then you'd have even that much more room... a few "smaller" coolers should fit fine along with two super compact fold-up chairs and a few soft travel bags filled with a few days worth of clothing for two.

I personally do not think there is anything so terrible about hauling a trailer with a Corvette, but generally speaking, if you don't really NEED to do it, it is way better NOT to. You cannot enjoy the C6's power and handling with a trailer on the back, so then you may as well just take a different vehicle that has more carrying capability. If you can fit all your gear in the C6's trunk though, then you'll be set.

Real Corvette racers, such as autoxer's routinely install these http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...dept%5Fid=1406, I have one, and it keeps my filthy race tires and my jack out of my beautiful car. I pull a small harbor freight trailer that might weigh 500 lbs loaded. I forget it's back there. Don't be ashamed. Bill

One of the big vendors sells a class I hitch, Ecklers or Midamerica I think, and I would not be afraid to get one. But I also agree that you can probably get what you need in the cargo area. I took my C5 camping with my son several times, and it held a 36 qt. cooler, camp stove, a tent, two air matresses, two sleeping bags, two pillows, two camp chairs, a dining fly with segmented poles, clothes for two for a weekend, coffee pot, lantern, food for two, etc. It was a tight fit and I had to pack the cargo area smart, but it all fit. Trade the EZ up for a cheap fly with segmented poles and the lawn chairs for collapsing camp chairs and it should all fit.

I think that there might be a law against installing trailer a hitch on a Corvette, you might want to check with the local law enforcment agency first.

Save yourself a few bucks. $202 and $1 shipping.

http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2005_C...t_Corvette.htm

I've got one, fine product.

And I see NOTHING wrong with towing a trailer with a Vette. How else are you going to get your race tires to the track!

....plus when not in use it would aid in traction with the extra weight in the rear. And it would act as a stop when backing the car to prevent damage. You could also put one of those cool trailer hitch plugs with a brake light or emblem in it. Also it could be used to tie cans to if you were getting married..........wait that's going to far...............

There is always an up side!!!!!
LOL!!

U-Haul installed a Curtiss hitch on my C6 for around $350 total including hitch, install and wiring.. Rated at 200#'s tongue/2,000#'s tow. Barely noticeable when there's no trailer attached.

OK, I went to Academy (southwest chain of sporting good stores) and picked up two light weight chairs (7.99 each in Texas flag pattern), an 8X10 canopy shelter (18.99) and a new coleman stainless cooler that fits nice and will not leak and holds ice for days. All weigh less than 25 pounds total. Have two soft side travel bags and I won't need a trailer hitch.
Might have to turn my underwear inside out to get two days out of them....... but good to go.

Better to have racing stripes on both sides of the underwear than a trailer on a vette!!
