Non functioning backup lights

The switch is in the transmission. It's the one that's high and forward,
right under where the shift linkage enters the front of the trans.
Normally, I'd just say bridge it and see if your reverse lights come on,
but there are two solenoids that are also attached to the trans,
so be very sure you get the right one, or you'll be shorting out a
line with some pretty good juice in it.

Since the computer knows what gear you have selected,
there's just a relay controlled by the computer in the
under-hood fuse box.
I really am puzzled by this reverse light issue on my A4. When I press the keyfob button, the reverse lights do come on (courtesy approach lighting), but when shifting into reverse.... Nothing!
Do you happen to know which relay it is for the reverse lights? I think we swapped out #36, but it didn't make any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If the reverse lights flash with the key fob, then the problem isn't
the relay (that's how we knew it was the switch in the transmission
on Didntsettle's car).
I haven't dug into the wiring diagrams for the A4 car, since I have
an M6, but I guess there's one test you can try: Have someone
stand behind the car and SLOWLY move the shift lever out of
park, through reverse, and into neutral and see if the reverse
lights come on at any time. If so, it could be a linkage
adjustment thing, otherwise, I'd be out of ideas.
I'm tearing down my motor to fix the shoddy work you performed. I have already removed the oil pan to discover debris blocking the inlet screen. I cleaned out the screen, re-assembled the pan, filled with oil and still the same low pressure issue.
You re-used the oil pump from my old motor.... the one that was circulating piston material throughout. Seems to me a new pump should have been used for this build-up.
So now, I'm dis-assembling the front dress on the motor to remove the oil pump..... Given the psi I'm seeing, it would appear this pump is shot. It "may" be the o-ring is pinched or has failed, perhaps the original was also re-used? I'll be installing a new pump shortly.
In any event.... as I am going about this work, I've come across a few items that you did not take care of properly:
1. Hood dome light was never re-connected to its power source.
2. Charge pipe on S/C was left hanging lower than front cross-member, you never did get to NAPA for that part on the morning we picked up the car.
3. Improperly secured intercooler mount, the I/C had already started to shift downward on the left side.
4. Stripped blower tubing clamp.
5. Radiator petcock that was just about completely stripped off.
6. Reverse lights, which is the subject of this thread.
Lord only knows what more I will discover as I tear into this project further!
To the original poster, I do apologize for Steve highjacking this thread & for my rant here. Now back to our subject at hand......
Silvadragon - I'll try your suggestion. I will be ordering a shop manual this week as I'm going to need it to handle whatever else may be up with my Vette. If you happen to think of anything else, I'd really like to hear from you - THANK SO MUCH AGAIN!!!
Any other suggestions would be great..... Thanks to all!

thanks

the oil pump was removed? yes, it was, I used the 4 bolts on the new motor along with the new LS6 pump
it was made 100% clear for you to contact the tuner directly for payment, 100% CLEAR MANY TIMES

Steve@EnglandGreen: the ONLY parts that were used from the old motor were the oil pan, and front/rear covers new lifters, cam, oil pump, and all gaskets were replaced, these parts were thouroughly cleaned in the parts washer
REALLY? THEN WHY IS THE ORIGINAL OIL PUMP MISSING FROM MY OLD MOTOR? WHY THE NECESSITY TO "thoroughly clean" A NEW OIL PUMP? HMMM
There are numerous emails/pm's concerning the fact that you were to pay the tuner directly this has been the FIRST reply or acknowledgment made by yourself from my phone calls/emails/and pm's
THERE'S NO FACT HERE.... YOU CONTRACTED WITH DON TO TUNE THE CAR, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE. YOU WANT FACTS? HERE ARE A FEW FOR CONSIDERATION:
1. MY CAR WAS DROPPED OFF TO YOU BACK IN NOVEMBER '06, THIS PROJECT WAS NOT READY FOR PICK-UP UNTIL MAY 4, 2007. 6 MONTHS? C'MON! I CAN ORDER A NEW CAR FROM ANY MFG. AND GET IT DELIVERED W/I 6-8 WEEKS. THIS AFTER MANY, MANY, MANY PM'S & EMAILS TO YOU LOOKING FOR PROGRESS - TO NO AVAIL!
2. THE DAY I P/U THE CAR, IT STILL IS NOT FINISHED! YOU HAD ME BUY THE BATTERY (SOMETHING YOU SAID YOU'D DO ~3 WEEKS BEFORE)... AND THERE'S THE TUBING SUPPORT MENTIONED ABOVE, YOU KNOW "I'LL GO TO NAPA NOW".... NEVER HAPPENED!
3. MY BUDDY NOTICED THE REVERSE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING, YOU STATE "TAKE THE CAR FOR A RIDE".... WHAT, IS THAT SUPPOSED TO FIX THE LIGHTS? OR WAS I GOING TO BE SO IMPRESSED, THE LIGHTS WOULDN'T MATTER ANY LONGER? DON'T THINK SO!
4. THE DAY WE CAME TO P/U THE CAR, I TOLD YOU I COULD NOT ACCEPT IT AS THERE WAS THE REVERSE LIGHT ISSUE & NOW LOW OIL PRESSURE.... I WAS TOLD "WELL, YOU CAN'T LEAVE IT HERE - I'M OUT OF BUSINESS TODAY". YOU TOLD US YOU WERE GOING TO FL. TO WORK FOR ENGLANDGREEN.... BASICALLY I WALKED AWAY WITH MY CAR WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THERE WOULD BE NO GOING BACK.
5. HERE'S WHAT YOU DID TO SOLVE MY REVERSE LIGHT ISSUE:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1695953
NEARLY 3 WEEKS LATER & YOU STILL HAVE DONE *NOTHING* TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.
6. WHY NO REPLIES FROM ME.... HONESTLY, I WALKED AWAY KNOWING FULL WELL YOU WOULD DO NOTHING. I DON'T NEED TO CONTINUE RELIVING BAD CHOICES MADE IN MY LIFE.... HINDSIGHT BEING 20/20, I CAN ASSURE YOU CT CORVETTE WOULD NOT BE MY SELECTION AGAIN!
I have offered numerous times to take a look at the car, pulling the filter and ck'ing for bearing material would be the first thing to check
YEAH, I DID THE "CHANGE THE OIL, FILTER, INSPECT" THING YOU OFFERED TO DO.... SO? THERE WAS NO BEARING MATERIAL *ANYWHERES*, THE DEBRIS DISCOVERED WAS NOTHING DETRIMENTAL TO THE MOTOR.... JUST IMPEDING THE OIL PICK-UP. CLEARLY YOUR OFFER WOULD NOT HAVE RESULTED IN A FIX OF MY SITUATION.
YOU KNOW, FOOL ME ONCE SHAME ON YOU, FOOL ME TWICE SHAME ON ME! I WOULD NOT ENTERTAIN HAVING YOU LOOK AT MY CAR. YOU DIDN'T STAND BEHIND YOUR WORK THE DAY I PICKED UP THE CAR, AND NOW YOU WILL NOT BECAUSE I CHOOSE NOT TO DEAL WITH YOU ANY LONGER.
edit: to the originator and other forum members that have contributed to this post, I apologize for the brief interruption, I felt it necessary to stand behind my work, and state the facts when there a false public accusations made about my work; I will gladly remove my posts if requested, thanks
[/QUOTE]FALSE ACCUSATIONS? NOT LIKELY! I OFFER ANYONE ON THE FORUM TO PM ME FOR PICTURES OF WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED SO FAR. STEVE, I SINCERELY HOPE YOU WILL CEASE ******* EVERY THREAD ON THIS FORUM I HAPPEN TO POST ON.
I WILL NOT DISCUSS THESE ISSUES WITH YOU AGAIN ON ANYONE'S THREAD. "YOU WILL GLADLY REMOVE YOUR POSTS"? CONSIDER YOURSELF REQUESTED TO DO SO.
END OF DISCUSSION.
Once again my sincerest apologies to all Forum members for these interuptions - will not happen again.
Thanks so much for the quick reply..... HAVE FUN! Btw, do you also street tune the cars or does the dyno handle everything for ya, just curious.
Thanks again,
Mike
This is one of the e-mails from this guy. First,Steve got screwed on the whole job, then I take it in the rear too. Funny how my e-mails are responded to very quickly when I have the car,but none of my after e-mails get returned.
Mike is a scumbag--period. The word is out to all the other shops about his ways. I can see being upset about some work but most people will contact the installer but to screw the outside tuner like this is wrong. Hopefully his motor blows up and the car burns to the ground
That will make me happy
To the thread starter -sorry to jump in and being negative.Hope you get your car sorted out
Steve got screwed? Is that what he's telling you? How so? He got paid in full for what clearly amounted to sub-standard work. Sorry to hear you were not compensated by the guy that was supposed to pay you at time of p/u from your shop. Your quote to me after you released the car to him:
"I got no $$ at all. He told me you were going to take care of the bill that made no sense to me."
Exactly!
You took my message to you and posted it here COMPLETELY out of context. At the time you had the car, "if" a pulley change could have been done..... YES, I would have paid that additional expense to you. However, the costs for the tune were Steve's. The extra 3 hours you spent "fixing some stuff" (direct quote) that Steve didn't handle/do correctly, would again be his responsibility.
I would have LOVED to write a thread praising Steve's work, sadly I cannot. I took his advice, looked @ the motor & have not found anything yet to account for the low oil psi problem.... If the pump is new (per Steve), then perhaps I'll discover a pinched o-ring on the pickup? Who knows! The car never lost psi, but it was very, very low.
The front dress will be removed this weekend to investigate further.
As for the motor, well.... if it's shot, then so be it! Trust me, lesson learned here. As mentioned before, I will NOT allow Steve access to this car again. He's out of business and moving on to FL. - I too have moved on from this whole situation as well.
