No one has answered the question--was there a problem in 2001 built cars, 2002, or 2003 built cars--maybe no one knows.
My corvette mechanic stated he didn't think it was a problem except in cars that we raced or have mods done (new cam, etc)--I don't know if this is true--but he only works on corvettes.

It's conjecture based on failures documented here that bad springs affected some 2002 and 2003 units. Virtually no one has reported a failure of a 2001 (an old design) or the 2004.
The majority of the problems (which aren't many to begin with) are with late 2002 and early 2003 Z06s.
One of the main possible reasons we don't see as many problems as there could be is because a large majority of C5Zs are garaged and hardly driven hard if they're driven at all...
MANY MANY Z06s are under 35000 miles... For an 6-9 year old car, that's not a lot of miles at all.

the other reason is ppl just change their springs and not worry about it.
With all the BS about spring problems, ppl who post an the forum asking about spring problems and contemplate class action law suites could have had their springs changed in less time and have been fine.
That is the same build date as mine. I have 85k on mine I did not know this could be an issue.
Same build date as mine too: 2/02. No problem with the springs yet, @ 51k miles. I'm the original owner, and it's seen plenty of trips to redline. Well, that's three 2/02 builds that are all good so far.

So true, I am amazed at the low mileage on some of the cars out here. I am no better (27k) but I have several cars to disperse the miles annually. I drive my Z06s one way... wide *** open. Glad I waited till late 2004 to get my first Z06.
I bought $200 pac 1518 springs and had them installed in 2 hours with a buddy's help. Now i am ready for a any cam i put in the car. Just get it done, not worth the worry.

Yep. I'm working very hard to put the right amount of miles on my Z!
Bought the car with 19K miles on it in March and I'm near 26.5K miles now. I was putting about 700 miles a month on my 02 Z when I had it.
