Corvettes have trans temp issues with the manual trans! I will be very surprised to see a track capable z06 with an auto. Yes the 8speed is coming but not to the z06.
Maybe as a convertible option for all you softies! :p
Dual Clutch Transmission. If you guess anything else, you'll be wrong!!
I think the tipoff was the Patent GM took out for one a while back...and now the interior picture pretty much confirms it.
There's no evidence to support a dct especially when cars like Cadillac ATS and Cadillac CTS along with Camaro are not using one. It's the ZF 8sp automatic.

Except for the shift pattern on top of the shift handle shown in the leaked pics of the new Z06. I can't find any cars that use the ZF 8-speed that have that on their handles. Seems weird to have a pattern on the handle of a auto car...
GM's press photo has a 7-speed stick but it also lacks a clutch pedal, has paddle shifters with +/- vs "rev match" and the dash says "P" on it for park. I think GM just mashed both together to keep it a secret until Monday.
That said... all logic points to the new 8L90E auto which will shift extremely fast and have a very advanced manual shift mode which does everything a DCT can do but still drive great around town in auto mode.
Well let's see...did GM surprise folks with a track version of the camaro called the Z28??? NA, well sorted and...expensive. But somehow it got pushed through.
Suppose they take that same theory that not many saw coming and along with a 625+hp sc, fancy smanzy Z, you can also get a 427, 580hp, NA, stripped down track beast at 2985lbs.
It cost close to $90,000. Not many frills. But light, stops RIGHT now with no fade and goes like stink as well as dropping the ring times 30 seconds.
Now THERE would be a surprise!!!!
Stripped down and still $90k? What is there that would make it cost so much? No extras like $8k interior upgrades and $5k nav/entertainment systems.
Personally, if comparing two similar cars and one is a stripped down, race version, I would expect it to cost less than or equal to the standard model.

Stripper cars always seem to end up costing more - especially as they are normally bundled with additional performance items. If there is a "stripper one" it will be more like the Z/28 to ZL1 through a Z07 package (there are rumors that the CF aero on the leaked shots is additional to the "base" Z06). Not a new strategy - look at the NISMO GTR w/ and w/o the "track pack, or any number of Porsche's and Fiats.
It makes sense, give the vast majority the power, looks, and name, but leave the track focused version (of still very much a road car) to a smaller audience including all the car mags for comparisons/road tests.

You are putting a lot of weight in some random artists rendering of the interior.
