Default What is a good price?

My dads cousin has a 1975 Corvette that has been sitting in his yard on a tarp for years, it is black, manual transmission, t-tops, 55,000 miles, and seems to not have any rust, but it needs tires, tune-up, paint, brakes, weatherstripping, battery, etc. it also does not run so what would be a good price to pay? Thanks!

Lots of pictures would be helpful. Else we're guessing.

Sounds like a car you could be upside down on in a hurry.

Based on what you said I'd say 1500 too. But to be honest, I'd probably just save a little longer and buy a better car to start with. If it needs what you mentioned, you can dump a ton of money into it before you know it. And if its been sitting out that long, I am willing to bet its got a rusted frame or bird cage. Who knows what the mice have chewed through...

Only way I'd buy that sort of car is if I was planning on tearing something apart and building it from the ground up how I want.

Rust is not something you can see on these cars without taking something apart. Rust hides in the birdcage, UNDER all the padding. If it`s been sitting outside for years, AND needs weatherstripping..... I`d be highly suspicious of the birdcage condition.

What you can see is one thing what you can't is another story.......potentially a labor intensive and or financial disaster besides.

Is the car for sale? You don't say that it is. If so, what is the seller asking? Not trying to be a horse's butt, but if the owner is expecting to sell and retire to the islands on the proceeds, pass on this one.

under a tarp for years in the elements? I would look again for rust.. I can guarantee you will find it. yes it needs to be rescued from its neglectful owner, but it out there for a reason and that reason should drop the price by 50%. you really can't even stay above water with a 75 unless you get it for free or really cheap.

In case your not aware . The Corvette body is fiberglass and will never rust. The rot takes place on the frame and inner panel metal surfaces.

Click on the paper clip or the yellow postcard and follow the prompts to post pics

Please read this
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-corvette.html

It saved me from a 74 with rusty body mounts, a 1 inch left side sag, non working vacuum system, leaky t tops and a loud rear end clunk

Im guessing you're a young person and if so congratulations to you for taking on a huge challenge and not sitting in front of a video device all day. We need more kids like you!!!

I am not trying to talk you out of this. I actually would love for you to get this but I spent 19k on mine and put another $2500 into it to make it work right, be safe and look good. And that was minor stuff. Add another grand to stuff I screwed up or had to add, so $3500.

Info for you. The birdcage is where the driver sits and is a metal frame that is the windshield, firewall and door pillars which the doors mount to and lock against and gives support to the body and is mounted to the chassis frame. Where it mounts to the chassis can rot out and these mounts can be seen easiest from the inside foot wells after removing the front kick panels, the rear access panel in the rear wheel wells infront of the rear tire and from below after the rear tire. Theres pics on the forum you can search or google them.

Onto the vette..
Under a tarp in the weather and critters
Not running for years
Dont know if it ran when it was parked....

You neeed to make it drive, you need to make it stop, you neeed to make it drive fast, you need to make it look good....

The first 2 are what you need to concentate on obviously

Remebering my prices which are rounded off and your labor

Drop the tank and clean it, flush the lines...... your labor freee
Rebuild the carb........ you $50......mech..$150
Alternator..... ??????
Belts and hoses..... $75
Tires ........ $650
Battery...... $120
Brakes........ $600+
Shocks........ $200
Tuneup. Cap rotor plugs wires...... $150
Clutch........ alot
Okay now your into it about $2000 and it still might not run, the headlights and wipers might not work and it still looks like a cat walking away. You might need
Bearings and bushings u joints.....
And if your wiring has been chewed add that into it

You should go online and get as many free parts catalogs as you can. Start with the vendors here. I got ecklers, mid america, corvette america, paragon, volunteer and just started looking at parts and prices to figure out whatwas worth what. Then go to willcoxs site and check 1975 vette how to's. Knowledge is a good thing and will help in the future if you know how its supposed to work.

Don't get discouraged. If you want a project or a cool car to learn on and can get this next to nothing, thats great. But make sure you read the "10 things post" cause rust sucks, eveything else is just hard work.

You could get into this $10k and still not have a decent interior or paint.

It isnt impossible, nothing is. It just hasn't been done yet or its really expensive or more than you care to spend. You may want to spend 5000 to 10000 for a running stopping car with good mounts and birdcage to start with or get this to learn on

Good luck. Post lots of pics. Welcome aboard.
