I have not changed mine but from what I've read, I'd call Dennis at Double D Mods. He seems to be the go to guy here.
I was going to say the same thing about Double D Mods.
I also have a '12. I must say, if I listen to the the radio, or XM radio, it sounds like garbage. However, if I plug my phone into the USB slot in the center console, Pandora or Spotify is not so bad. Nothing great, but for me, I can live with it.
Just my opinion, but if you use an iPhone, you might want to consider a Pioneer App Radio. I put one in my XLR and LOVED it. I am seriously considering replacing this OEM Nav with one too. I gives Siri to the vehicle along with reading my txts audibly to me, voice composing replies to emails and txts, providing iPhone navigation to the screen, and Pandora. No, it does not integrate into the HUD, but I can live without that function.
Call Dennis. He helped me upgrade mine and it is great! I purchased a Kenwood with Apple Car play since I have an iPhone, a must if you ask me. It also has the Android service.

love my Pioneer, I use a droid phone for music and navigation, it will play your music and lower when reading your directions. I wanted to invest my money in the stereo and not the navigation. You can still use the steering wheel controls.

yeah, call Dennis. I just spoke to him to get an install kit for an Android Head unit the Mrs. gave me for our anniversary. He's a real good guy & will get you what you need for what you want to spend.

A little side bar...Do you need to buy the special adapter to maintain the factory chimes and amplifier?

My 2010 GS had an aftermarket system in it when I got it. Alpine XL007 In dash media and JL audio sub and amp with components. They did not tie in the factory chimes, which on one hand is cool but on the other, kinda sucks. The con's to this are, no On Star. It's there but I can't use it. They can hear me but I can't hear them. No door chimes or warning chimes. Trying to set the memory seats sucks because you can't hear the beep to know if it set. I'm thinking about getting a different head unit and having it done properly. The only plus side to not having it proper is the battery doesn't get drained if it sits for weeks. I haven't driven it in two weeks due to weather and last night the wife took it and it fired right up.
Had this Kenwood installed and it is awesome. Having 150watt Kicker hideaway sub installed today. 8 inch sub in a self contained amplified unit. Only 3 inches tall. I'll take picture when I pick it up. Kenwood DDX6703S Bluetooth in-dash DVD/CD/AM/FM Car Stereo w/6.2" touchscreen It is compatible with factory warning beeps, steering wheel controls, Sirius, etc. Not sure about OnStar since I don't have it.

You can retain all the factory bells and whistles including onstar. If you listen to FM radio do not mount an D class amp in the rear of the car, you will get no reception. It may he better behind the seat.
I've got a 2011 Convertible. Last ride was a Jag XK convertible with an awesome Alpine Stereo System. The sound in my Vette reminded me of the days when I listened to a transistor radio. I discovered that the sound system in my Vette comes to life with an IPod plugged into the center console. No expensive change outs or mods. Not like the Alpine System but acceptable as the noise level in the Vette negates a high quality system.

You must not have Bose speakers in your car, because the Bose in my 012 sound awesome.
Depends on what you mean by "upgrading my stereo."
You can retain the HU and upgrade the speakers plus add an amp and a sub. Or you can retain the speakers and upgrade the HU. Or do both.
I chose to retain the HU and added a JL700 amp, Biten sound processor, new JL speakers and a JL stealth box sub. Also added sound deadening in the doors, behind the seats and in the trunk. The sound is amazing. Plus, I retained the stock look including the Bose speaker grills.
