Default Any idea how's this C3 hood made?

Hey guys, can you help on this? I will need to replace my ’73 hood for a rise one but I like neither the L88 nor any other aftermarket cowl hood. After spending hours of searching I found this gorgeous C3 with a hood that looks the best and most probably is one of the the kind. I guess it's not the classical sting hood. I suppose it’s custom made. I can see there is a standard small block pre ‘73 hood with a fabricated piece on top. Can you please help specify what / how is the top part made / where is it from?

Looks like someone grafted a modified (narrowed) a stinger scoop onto a stock hood for a sudo-baldwin motion type thing.

There are stinger hoods made (ecklers etc) for the C3 but I don't think I've seen a short one if that's what you are after

Yes, this is exactly what I'm after. I will be installing a Procharger in time so I will not need the raised part of the hood that wide (for a large air cleaner). I love the smooth lines of the C3 and any kind of raised hood sort of destroys that IMHO. I like this creation as it is raised but remains still very elegant.

Did you check the c3 stinger hoods being sold then, they'll fit your 77 (didn't catch that before, thought you wanted the short hood with the wiper door)
I know ecklers and CC have them

I know they are available. Yes, these are sort of what I'm looking for but not entirely. I will fabricate the one I posted on the photo using whatever parts needed. Only need to figure what are they and what is the best combination .

Hi F,
To many Corvette folks that modified hood screams "67 big block hood".
Why not try to modify your 73 hood with a higher version of the stock 'rise' which seems to go better with the car's other lines, but still lets admirers know there's something special going on under there!
Regards,
Alan

Actualy, that was my backup plan. I first need to see how much more clearance I need and after that I'll decide about the final solution. But for now, the '70 stock hood with added sting scoop works best for me. Even if I'm not sure if that's even doable on my '73 (long vs short hood).

Hi F,
What would bother me is that the long 73+ hood leaves you in a quandary….... is the stinger made longer (and does that look good?), or does the stinger start further back on the hood (probably can't if it's to give the clearance where it's needed), or does it end far forward from the rear edge of the hood (don't think that looks good at all).
???
Regards,
Alan

Check the ACI website. I think I saw one there.

If you need a short hood, you'll need to do it your self. I bought the scoop from here http://www.up22.com/

Hi,

I went with a DIY along Alan's suggestion...

"Why not try to modify your 73 hood with a higher version of the stock 'rise' "

I think it looks the way the factory might have done it.

My stock '73 454 big block hood has a high rise built into it which, I believe, it's about an inch taller that the '73 small block hood. The big block hood also has a stock cowl induction system built in. It could be just a matter of swapping for a stock big block hood with no modifications needed.

I think the 'stinger' housing looks great on an early C3 stock hood. So what if it reminds folks of the '67 hood? These fiberglass add-ons are available from several sources. Some are exactly like the '67 design...some are a bit different.

As long as it is high enough for you and looks , use whatever you want.

Love this version too! I guess, unfortunately, I will not be able to go with a bashcraft's scheme as there is no way to get the short pre '73 small block hood on my 'long-hooded' 73. But this hood right here is a simply rised hood with a flavor of Corvette's history (or so). Only for this solution I will need to get the middle part. Or a complete hood on e-bay...

Thank you for your post. I got a small block '73 and the hood is the same as for a big block (i guess).

I like the stinger look but this is the bees knees. I love the LT1/BB hoods but have always thought they should sit higher as I've never really been a fan of the L88 hood. Yours is perfect. Now if I only had the money...........
