Question - Drain & Fill A8
I tried my hardest to find a procedure to drain and fill (and replace filter if applicable) on the C7 A8 transmission. I have looked on this forum, and I search the web. But I can't seem to locate any information on changing the fluid/filter on these. I know these transmissions are low to no maintenance for the average folks, but I am interested in the procedure so I do mine at about 30,000. I'm about 1/3 the way there already. I hope to get the Helm service manuals in the coming year, hoping that this would be something found in it. I would appreciate any information concerning this.
Thanks,
Dave
On top of all that, these transmissions are built in a clean facility and opening them up, even to put fluid in supposedly does more harm than not changing the fluid until 100k. I only did it because I had to, my transmission cooler was ripped off in a wreck and it pumped all the fluid out.
If you are bound and determined though, I can send you the pages from the service manual

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I have a dealer near me that I don't trust to service my car right now. They screwed up my first oil change. They will have to earn my trust back. I am only preparing myself for future maintenance. I have the equipment to jack up the whole car and keep it level. If you would send me those pages, I would most appreciate it.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,
Try this link (hopefully it works)
There is a lot of good info about our beloved A8.
If you do change the Fluid and filter you will probably only get 3 to 5 quarts out of it. A lot of the fluid is trapped in the cooler and the torque convertor. I think that's why GM is flushing the problem Transmissions three times.
Thanks, Gamo

Gamo,
Wow! That was a good read on the A8. Like you said...a lot of good information on the A8. Thank you.
Dave
I was under my car today and wanted to check the tightness of the transmission pan bolts. At the end of last season I developed a small leak and it turned out to be the pan bolts needed to be torqued.
It turns out that the front three bolts are very difficult to get at. You should investigate these before you buy fluid and filter.
They are 10 MM. I tried a wrench and socket with a universal joint but no go.
A one piece socket/universal may work.
Maybe someone else has a solution.
Gamo
