Small rust hole in trailing arm well.
In the process of replacing my trailing arms and redoing all the bushings and hardware. Removed them today and found this small rusted area. I have gone over the whole chassis and this spot and the chassis mount on the firewall were rusted. I made a new mount for the firewall. I just can't figure a way to fix this. I can't get in there to cut it out and you can't get it from the other side. I was thinking of drilling it out and getting a washer and try to weld it in just to seal it up. the metal is solid around it.
Any ideas.

I'm no expert, and I don't have access to my own '70 right now, but I think that hole is a drain opening and is supposed to be there. Have you checked that pocket on the other side? You'll likely get other responses, but if I'm right, you should find one there also.
Good luck.

Get in there with a die grinder and open it up as you clean it, then weld it up. Clean it back up with the die grinder and done.

They were hand fabed, some have small spaces some don't.
As long as there is no severe rust and corrosion you should be fine.
My 71 had spaces and I was able to get the dirt and dust out by cleaning the entire area inside and out.
A good coat of Rust oleum 7777 or Por-15 will keep it from detreating.

Clean it, scrape it, die grind it. You should be able to get a welder in there, especially a stick welder. fill the hole and then grind it down smooth. Por-15 after that.

B isn't a hole. one of the PO's treated the frame with something, might be undercoating. But I chipped it as I was removing the trailing arm. The frame was all coated in the areas he could get to. I wire wheeled it off the front 3/4 of the frame and used rust treatment and then painted. A is the hole.

Well finally got to start doing these holes. The r/s has a few small ones that got a little larger as I cleaned them. The l/s had one nice size one that I put some metal over and welded all around it, ground it down and it looks pretty good. I will try to weld it from the inside also.
I wish my welding skills were better. I really haven't welded anything in about 7 years. I backhalfed my 67 GTO and put a cage in it.
The smaller holes should I just clean them up and then weld them closed?

I'm puzzled by this post. Unless the OP is welding holes at a different location than the one pointed out in Alan's post (#9), you don't need to weld repair those openings. They may function as a drain so water doesn't pond up in those pockets. Can you post more photos after cleanup, but before weld repair?
Yes those are the areas. They are not drain holes. They are rust thru spots. Some pinhole size others the size of the tip of your pinky. Maybe 6 in total. Rest of the area is solid. I went thru the frame again last night and it is solid. These seem to be the only problem area.
