Steering Box Bolts - Corvette Central
So I decided to order replacement steering box bolts from Corvette Central. Attached is the picture from there web-site which looks like my original. Last pictured is what showed up. The bolts they sent me were spray painted with the paint already chipping off.

The ones they sent you look like regular Home Depot carriage bolts. Not the correct ones for the application.

Hi T,
I find offering those bolts as a replacement for the configuration of the original bolts pretty surprising.... and disappointing!
Are they grade marked?
Regards,
Alan

Not sure about other years but on my 69 the steering box bolts also look to be fine thread.

You would think the vendors would be more honest about what they are selling. Posting that picture on their site and then shipping standard carriage bolts is pure deception in my book. Of all the vendors it's been my experience that Willcox is the most honest and are true corvette people.

We pulled our stock on the 562249 bolts to take a look at. They are a grade 5, black oxide bolt. They all tend to have a white/yellow residue on them (mostly between the threads), which is common from the caustic soda/solution when black oxiding.
None of the kits we have in stock have spray painted bolts, but if you did get something like that, we would be happy to exchange it.
The 1966 judging guides state that these typically have an RBW headmark. Ours does not. It looks like an NY headmark. The 68-69 and 70-72 judging guide doesn't seem to mention a headmark.

Your on Left Factory on Right
The picture you have on your website shows the factory bolts not what you sold me. If the picture was accurate I would not have ordered them in the first place

Right, it looks like our vendor has changed to a fully threaded replacement since our last web photo was taken. We are going to update the photos and start looking for a more correct type, partially threaded bolt to switch to.
If you want to give us a ring and get over to product assistance, one of us can get you to customer service and get them the info needed for a refund. Or if you would rather PM me your customer number, I'll have them look it up.

I think the corvette vendor needs to check the products they get from the vendors they buy from better and this would not happen. I get they have 10,000s of parts in stock but they are not getting in 10,000 parts at the same time. Good service helping with the customer. Need more vendors like this when things go wrong.
