LT-1 valve cover with push in rubber oil cap hole
So I thought I might replace my ratty old valve covers on my 72 LT-1. It has the rubber push in style oil filler cap. The only thing I find on the internet are the screw on filler cap type.
What's the deal?

I have the oil cap, I'm trying to find a new finned aluminum valve cover that takes it.
They all seem to be like this:
The hole on the right is for the PVC valve and the hole on the left is for a twist on oil cap.

Original rubber plug LT-1 covers hard to find and expensive. I suppose the demand is not enough to justify the repo vendors to make them? Another guy on here was looking for a set and I do not know if he ever found any. I told him if I came across a set, I would let him know.

I don't think they reproduce the 72 LT1 valve covers with push in oil cap. I have a set I bought but never used on my 72. They are rare.

The 70 LT-! valve cover was configured to use a 'twist-in' metal oil cap.
The 71 and 72 LT-! valve covers used the 'push-in' rubber oil cap.
The valve covers for the 'push-in' cap were originally available in 'service' too, so there are some around... but I rarely see them offered.
The rubber push-in cap won't seal in the hole for the metal twist-in cap.

I bought the set of LT-! valve covers over the counter in the fall of 1971.
The finish on them wasn't polished.
The finish had deteriorated over the next 20 years so when I decided to hang them up I just painted them so they'd look a bit nicer.
That's what's in the photo.

Although this is the inside, the appearance is quite like what the outside finish was too.
I remember being pretty disappointed when I first saw them!
Here's another example of what they looked like.

Ah ha. This explains it. Problem with the rubber cap is it gets hard fro heat and then doesn't seal 100%. Already ordered a new one.

Depending on the size of hole needed for that rubber plug, one could easily reconfigure a '70-style cover by filling in those little 'slots' via heli-arc weld or drilling the hole to larger size (if needed). Once the rubber "OIL" plug is installed, who would know?

OT - My '69 Camaro is supposed to have unpolished covers without the drippers but I bought a NOS set of polished covers with drippers and had them refinished in a tumbler to make them look like the earlier unpolished ones. The dippers were added by GM for extra lubrication and that is a good thing to have.
