Default Installing side window glass in 1957

From everything I have found on assembling the door glass and reveal mouldings with felts, the outer felts and outer reveal moulding have to be screwed into the outer retainer as a unit and they get fastened to the door posts and installed together . If that is the case how do you slide the glass down into the door with the door post already installed . The door post area is the only slot big enough to install the glass vertically ? Is there a trick to installing the glass with everything else installed ? Is there enough room with the inside trims left off to spread the inner fiberglass panel enough to slide the glass in ?

The outer molding have studs that go in from the top. Only the inner molding attaches with screws. The felts attach with staples or you can use rivets if its too difficult if you don’t care about originality. It’s been a long time since I pulled one out but at least the inner will have to be off to get the window back in. It’s a pain to get the outer off or on with the window installed. Good luck.

Thanks for responding but there are no studs on the outside mouldings . The only stud that goes down through the fiberglass is on the rear of the door post and at the rear is the clip that holds the horseshoe trim on with one screw. All of the drawings in the vendors catalogs show screws going through the outside retainers from the inside to hold the outer felt and outer reveal molding on .

OK , I found Some more diagrams in Paragon and Zip that shows the studs that you was talking about . Looks like a better design than the ones showing using the screws through the retainer which they show in Chicago corvettes ,Keen Parts , and Corvette World . All talking about 56-58 . I have been finding a lot of misinformation on these cars including mistakes in the wiring diagrams which makes for a real challenge sometimes . Thanks for pointing that out Geralds57 .

I made some clips with studs for the outer mouldings ,one for each side in the center and that worked fine . Got everything working good on the windows but I have to say these doors are not fun to work on .

Default 1957 door posts with window removal

I appreciate this thread, very helpful. I'm in process of changing out my window and hardware for it on my 1957. Do the door posts have to be removed when the window is removed? Or can the window be removed without them?

The door post doesn’t need to be removed.

Geralds57, Thanks for the info. Can you tell me what adhesive is needed to adhere the felt in the back window glass channel on a 1957?

Any good contact cement should work. Brush it on both and let them tack up for a few minutes, then stick em together.

I am in the same situation. I already have the instructions on the felts, but the '57 I am working on does not have the studs on the outer moulding. On the passenger side, it appears to have been screwed from the top.

For the life of me I cannot figure how to remove the door glass.

Thanks for any info,

Jonathan.
