Default 12 gauge wire for atenator where to buy

Where can I buy red 12 gauge (3.0 metric) wire that connects to the power lug at the rear of the alternator? Also, does anyone know what the size of the non insulated eye terminal that fits over the lug as well as the rubber boot that covers the lug nut?

This kit will probably provide everything you need:
http://www.madelectrical.com/catalog/alt-1.shtml

and here's the boot:

If it was me I'd just go get some automotive wire and lugs at the car parts store (or go to the pick-a-part and get everything) but this looks like a pretty complete kit. Be aware that you probably want to use that 8-gauge sized wire at the alternator output. Hope that helps.

I agree with this. Depending on your load you may need bigger wire. I run a separate terminal block for my fans, computer, Vintage Air system that are being feed off a #8 wire from the alternator terminal. I left the factory harness alone but wanted plenty of power for everything else. Minimum would be 10, 8 is better. Never to big but to small it can overheat.

I believe that your 79 originally had a 10 ga wire from the alternator (at least that's what my 77 had). I would use nothing smaller than 10 gauge, and would recommend 8 ga. I am running 6 ga with my CS130D alternator.

Do you have a car stereo store in your area? That is usually the best place to get good quality #8 AWG wire and terminals.
