Default Under Hood Light Upgrade

Hey gang, while rehabilitating this Corvette that I bought I have fixed little things here and there while I'm waiting on other major parts. I decided to clean up the underhood lights. I polished the glass and painted the inside of the buckets White. I also purchased LED bulbs to go inside of them. I know the underhood lights aren't the greatest and we can't see a lot while using them, although this upgrade makes a huge difference. While working on the front end tonight I decided to go ahead and put the bulbs in. I wish I had a before picture but, the photo below shows the lights in my garage in complete darkness. Wow. I have also included a screenshot of the bulbs that I purchased in case any of you want to make this upgrade as well.

Back in the day I sold a rocker switch kit for the underhood lights. Easy to install - small hole by passenger side light and you could turn off both lights with one switch. Why ? Anytime you'd 'show' car you had to unplug the two lights so you wouldn't kill the battery after a long day !!!!!! Oh well - progress LOL

Wow, those xenon bulbs do look really bright.

I still have the harness in the '88 allowing me to turn off the lights with a simple switch toggle from the drag racing days.
In fact I just ordered another such harness for the "new" '89 to simplify some needed under-hood work needed.

Just a quick question.....Did you have to do any modifications to the bulbs for proper fitment ????
Thank you....Jeff

No. The bulbs were a direct fit.

Does orientation of the LED matter? Will it work in one direction only?

Both of mine worked on the first try, I do not believe orientation mattered in this case.
