Default Emergency Trunk Key

For some time now I have tried to get an Emergency Trunk Key for my 2022 that is a regular key head. Everyone told me NO. Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet said yes and ordered a generic key blank, cut the key ad it works --- Cost < $ 50 which is still high. Ace hardware said they would not even duplicate a key if I brought them one. Another Chevy dealer wanted > $ 100 to make a FOB key which I have and don't want to use. Every locksmith wanted $ 100+ One Chevy dealer said $ 700 as they would only do a complete FOB

Bottom line is ---- the key blank for the trunk of a 2022 is the same blank used on my 2018 Silverado truck and probably lots of late model GM cars. Keep at it and you can get one somewhere if you want it.

Not a problem for those of us with a MY23. All we need is a 3" hole saw and a new trunk lid!

Yes, it is. But that won't help you get into the hatch / trunk if the electric release doesn't work.

And you have to use a $700 hole saw, which will be on constraint when you need it.

Tadge Juecter can explain it. Harland Charles can explain it but whether they will or not is another question.

Not sure I know a 2018 Silverado Key blank will work. It has a transponder but who cares Not needed -- Only the cut part of the key is needed

I think any late model GM "Square - Internally cut" key blank will work.

Why do we need an emergency key? I know the C7 had some dead zones where you might leave the key in the car and the car would still auto lock. Is it possible to leave a key in the trunk, frunk or cabin of a C8and have the car auto lock?

I had 2 keys made at Ace for my 21 HTC. I think they said it was a Camaro blank. It was one that did NOT have the chip in it.
I used it to get in to my car when the OTA went bad and locked up everything. (easier to hold and insert than the FOB one)

One of the nuttiest ideas I have ever heard. Ruin a hatch to get it open. Smart move, GM.

I have had a spare key made for both my 2019 Acura, 2015 C7 and now my 2021 HTC at a "super" ACE Hardware. The key blank is: HU100 for the Corvette. I keep it in my wallet and FOB #3 in a Faraday pouch in the glove box.

If the battery dies completely, the emergency key is the only way to get into the car, and the only way to get access to the battery to jump or replace it. And if the power release for the trunk / hatch fails, the key is the only way to open it (other than cutting a hole in the trunk lid).

I just placed an order for the MY22 rear trunk lock cylinder to retrofit onto my MY23.

The decision to remove this lock cylinder doesn't make sense to me except if it is a supply chain issue.

But what a price to pay for MY23 owners -- 3 inch hole saw on the trunk lid?
