I just goggle search who has what I need when I need it. Always fun looking for specific SAE hardware when living in a metric country.
But I always seem to find what I need with the help of Mr. Google. Just the waiting for it that sucks!

I bought a bunch of stuff from bolt Depot. Amazing selection and you can order minimum quantities. Everything comes labeled in little bags. Quick shipping and way better pricing than my local hardware store.

#2 for Bolt Depot. Used them for years at my shop for hard to find stainless fasteners. Customer service was top notch. I also bought one of those measuring things they have at HD and Lowes so I made sure I ordered the right stuff.

I concur.....I use it almost daily at work and a LOT at the shop.......the prices are a smidge more but the search capability on the site is worth every penny.....AND, they carry ARP in singles....stainless, black oxide....the description doesn't say so but that is what they are.....I order them frequently......they have the ARP 12pt stainless flange nuts in bulk too.....lots of cool stuff......they also have a super thick paper catalog if that is how you roll...........

If you care about head marks or finish, I like AMK Fasteners, they also cross reference GM part numbers. Most of the fasteners are made in USA.

What about hardware like small screws that hold into the plastic dashes & various other little things = 3 screws that hold the rubber boot on the clutch push rod on a manual, defroster vent to dash,
Picture as example, 3 screws on bottom came out = originals = no clue

Depending your local mom and pop often times has a decent selection. At least the ACE near me does.

Once again: McMaster-Carr. Here are your screws - it took me 37 seconds of McMaster catalog searching:

If you have numbers from assembly manuals or parts books, you can match them up to items at AMK. I buy quite a few things from them, when I can find them. https://www.amkproducts.com/

Allen’s Fasteners is another good source. I’ve bought a lot of ARP stainless from them and they offer bulk discounts.

Corvettes@Carlisle had an older couple that sold bulk Nuts and Bolts or collections of hardware. They sold me several boxes including Grade 8 hardware in big plastic boxes with a selection of all the sizes and nuts and washers included. I have Grade 8, Stainless, Metric bolt collections and since then I have stopped making trips for hardware.

When working on my C3 or C4 I replace some of the hardware with Grade 8 so I know it will always come out when I want them too. I also have boxes of electrical weatherproof connectors, both U.S. (GM Style) and Metric along with tools needed to make the connectors. The weatherproof sets have saved my butt when I need just the right part to work. It is so nice to be able to make a new connection when one gets damaged or fails.

At work we used a lot of stainless hardware from 4/32 up. At the end of the day they would sweep up all the hardware that fell and throw it away instead of re-sorting the pieces and putting them back into inventory. We used up to 9/16" bolts with varying lengths in stainless and that stuff gets expensive. I saved their trash hardware and today I must have more than 200 pounds of the stuff. Very handy stuff to have laying around. Every time I went out to build another system they would give me bags and bags of extra hardware which I kept post travel.

McMaster Carr is a great resource as I found a toothed belt to get my Sears Water Wheel working again. The selection of parts they offer is great and their service is good. The toothed belt was an unbelievable find as it was only 6" long and the tooth pattern was the exact same. Sears Parts suggested I throw away this ($80) wet wheel sharpener. McMaster Carr got me working again for less than $7 for two of the belts and now my wet wheel is working again for another 45 years.

Having the right hardware when you need it is a real blessing. Keeping it all organized is a bit of work.

So first, thanks everyone for the connections.

Saturday I spent most of the morning searching for the bolts to mount my rear main seal housing and a couple of woodruff keys for the crank.

Found the bolts at the local mom & pop Ace.
Found the keys at Advance Auto.

In the future I’m going to give myself a little more lead time to order online.

BTW, is there any store that smells better than an old fashioned hardware store? That was where it was just me and Dad.
