....I'm curious where you mounted the camera. I already have a double din system in place in my 2004 convertible and I'm considering upgrading my current head unit and speakers so while I'm in there I might as well add the camera but I want it to be stealth and well positioned. Pics are appreciated!

Camera mounted in my previous C5 centered above the plate. Just make sure you ground it properly.

I have a crappy license plate camera. I want to upgrade.

I saw this and fell in love, but don't know what camera was used:

I've seen these before as well but not sure if I would want the camera disrupting the high brake light when engaged. Is that camera drilled and wired through the high brake light? I like the one near the top of the license plate as long as it's stealth as some I've seen are more rectangular than round. Similar to the C7 front grill cameras. Is there a visibility benefit in mounting it higher vs. lower?

Just installed mine earlier this month. I didn't have a license plate frame on my car, so I bought a license plate frame camera. Very easy install and it was pretty cheap on Amazon.

I'm about to add a rear camera on a C5 coupe. I'm not quite certain where a good ground location is in the rear plate or taillight area.

I didn't need to ground anything.

It gets power/ground from the source. You just need to tap into the positive backup lamp wire to activate the camera's screen backup grid lines

Also, do these cameras that are wired into the head units or the rear view mirrors automatically turn on when the car is put in reverse, either manual or automatic transmissions? Or do you need to press a button to turn the camera on when needed?

I know most head units (if not all) have you wire into the reverse lamp wire harness to cause them to switch to camera mode. My Kenwood also lowers the sound volume slightly.

The Kenwood I have has a button that can activate and leave the camera on at will.

Power for the camera is tapped from the power to the back up lights, which only comes on in reverse.
When the camera is powered the display gives it priority.

Tap seen below on right

Thanks. Do you know your Kenwood head unit model number? I know they change every year but looking to comparison shop as my current head unit is a Kenwood.

I got the Kenwood Excelon DMX958XR and also ordered the Kenwood KCA-RC01A camera for matching higher resolution. It works well.

my rear view mirror camera is on 100% of the time. it only gets power from the reverse wire when it switches to show the reverse-mode grid lines.

it's all done automatically, no need to press anything.

here's more info: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1606335501

if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

BTW i've said it before and saying it again...the rear view mirror camera is awesome and the best way to do it. many of the newest high end cars have this feature including the C8.

jdmvette, if your camera fails or loses power, is there still a mirror face for redundancy???
