Default 340hp Mechanical Advance Springs

Want to replace the springs on the mechanical advance weights. ‘62-340 hp engine with dual points.

I’ve looked for the springs at Zip & Central but was only offered weights, springs and other parts. Just want springs for a 340 hp engine.

Points, weight, spring….

Also, looks like the distributor is missing an oil cap. Know where these can be obtained?

Appreciate your help.

Are you talking about oem nos springs ?
Corvette Central has a universal kit on page 60 of there catalog .With a dial back timing light you should be able to copy the OEM curve .

Thank you. Yes, OEM (or like) springs for the 340hp dual point distributor. Saw what Central has and just want the springs, not the kit.

Thanks for your post!

Default Distributor Springs

It is VERY unlikely that you will find a set of OEM springs. The easiest and least expensive way to get springs is to get a distributor spring & weight kit. They usually come with 3 different strength springs. You DO NOT have to use them in matched pairs---You can mix them to customize your curve. Most engines wake up with a curve that is all in between 2800 and 3200 RPM. Mix & match until you get that.

Most get a Mr. gasket or MSD spring kit. I have found NOS Mopar performance advance springs for my Plymouths so there could be some GM sets in someone’s possession. eBay or one of the popular rebuilders may turn up some. Member LARS is also another possibility.

If you buy a kit I would suggest not using the lightest springs that bring in the full advance at low rpm. Try to find a set or combination (you can use different strength springs on the 2 weights) and shoot for full advance around 2800 rpm +/-. This works much better for the street and today’s gasoline. The old adage of bringing the full advance in as fast as possible when I was growing up has sort of matured to bringing it all in at mid-rpm range.
