I have a stock '14 Stingray, Z51, M7, FE3, that I use to go on runs with the corvette club monthly and occasionally we get up to speed (125-140) for a very short period of time before backing down. I have Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's non run-flats in Z51 sizes , 19's up front and 20's out back. My concern is that my RR tire has been repaired twice in two different places towards the center due to small screws. I was told that they were patched and plugged. All four tires have about 5/32 of tread left on them and they are 4 year old tires according to the manufacturing date on the side wall. Can I replace that one tire with a new one? Should I look for a pre-owned one with similar tread that has no flats fixed on it? Do I have to change both rears? I'm not flush with cash. But I went on a run recently and although the tires all held up, it was in the back of my mind that a blowout at 140 mph could be catastrophic. Thanks in advance..........
4 years old and 5/32nds tread remaining? Out of 2/32nds?
Heat Cycles: The rubber compound hardens and degrades after 30+ hot cycles, often before the tread is fully worn.
Cup 2 R Version: The Cup 2 R is a specialized, faster-wearing variant designed for maximum lap times and can wear out even faster.
Maintenance Recommendations:
Check the wear bars; when the tread is even with these bars, it is time for replacement.
Even if tread remains, tires should be inspected annually after 5 years and replaced no later than 10 years after their manufacture date, according to Michelin's advice.
