Default Another Broke Console Button

Maybe I'm wrong, but it would not be so bad if the repair didn't require so much disassembly work. In my case I have read about other folks problems with this cheap button console button and wish I had looked at mine and how it functions before this. In my case there was a crunch sound when I tried to open it yesterday and it pushed in and stayed in. The door would not open. I tried to jiggle, wiggle, message it to no avail. finally the button was able to come out bit (as seen in the picture) but that is all. The door still will not open and the button doesn't come all the way out, Any ideas on how to trip the lids release mechanism? Thanks!

Have you watched any of the many videos on Youtube about this (and fixes). The button is so basic, I am sure you could get it open and if not broken adjust it, to work again.

I guess I should have been clearer. Yes I looked at videos on YouTube and read some posts online. Unfortunately I have missed finding one describing my problem. My console button pops partially out (as in the picture), but will not come all the way out and the lid will not open. I'm guessing the button is broken somewhere inside the unit and is separated from the push button. Luckily nothing important in there but still frustrating.

The new console button .#85806061
In my case the button would pop out when I closed the console. Pulled the button out and installed the new one. Gonna have to get the console door open first.

I'm surprised the non-owners haven't been here to say how all the C-8's have this problem.

The solution is simple. Report it to CarFax and the sell the car 😉.

all kidding aside… I am sure if you got a trim tool you could manipulate that broken button into opening.

I have the same issue; car is under warranty. I just don't want to take it to the dealer.

So, you don't have the replace the whole thing? part number 85599089

The part number you posted was the whole console locking assembly. The number I posted was just the push button. Correct button only

Pushbutton - GM-85806061

I fixed (not replaced) the button myself and haven't had an issue since.

If you can manage to get the button to pop out, its a very easy fix. You basically use a heat gun (or hair dryer) and bend the prongs outward slightly. There's another thread with a picture of how far out the prongs should be.

I'd like to know why the "new" replacement button does not come with a new spring. In my case the old spring fell out of sight into the bottom of the center wall when I removed the button. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Y'all can joke about defects in the car all you want, but when something happens to you it's really not so comical. No interest in selling my car and I did figure out how to manipulate a trim tool into a blind hole, get the spring to magically depress enough to let the door release pop open. At that point the button assembly slid out. I don't think spreading the locking arms of the assembly with heat will fix the opening problem but for now I'm not going to worry about it.

To those reading and contributing to the post - Thank you.

Good luck repairing the button. At least you don’t have to replace the entire assembly.

Just to confirm does the new console button GM #85806061 also fit a 2024 C8 or is it only for the new interior 2026 and up?
Gm parts online show it as the wrong part for 2024 C8. If it is a redesigned/improved version I would like to upgrade my original button now before it has a problem.
Thanks.

GM Parts Direct says it is a replacement for the old part.
