Has anyone replaced the front inner frame horn gussets? Mine are rusted as shown below. Corvette Central offers the part so someone has had to replace them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello,
In looking at your photo it appears the damage is more likely to have been caused by a 'collision' than 'rust'
If that's the case perhaps the front of the frame rail needs to be checked too.
What does the front bumper brace look like?
???
Regards......
I replaced the frame on my '72 with one from a '74 and had to change the frame horns. I cut the welds with a cutoff wheel and believe that I used threaded rod and some nuts to help position the new one within the actual frame's openings while welding it in place. In an attempt to protect the frame, cleaned and painted the frame and then ground some of that off for the new welds.
I had to replace those on my 68, same thing rust hole and metal swelled out, cut welds and line up new one and weld in, easy. also sprayed weld through primer on back sides then internal frame coating after welded.
According to frame guru David Howard (RIP) bolt hole locations in those frame horns varied a couple of times over the years.
Vette Products of Michigan actually makes them.
Make sure you get the correct ones for your year.
