So... I was at a car show and had my power steering go out as I was trying to back into a space.. looked under the car and saw a leak that I found out started a ways back while to my spot... so I nursed it home and this morning I filled the fluid back up and jacked up the car... what I saw is in the pic.. Now this part is only like 2 months old... soooo, my question is do I rebuild it or just get another one?? also after taking it out and replacing it do I have to go through the whole process of balancing it with the control valve or just slap it in and make sure I have no air in the system... Thoughts appreciated...

If the surface of the rod is worn or damaged rebuilding will not work. Consider a new one from Lonestar
New ones are more than likely made by Lares - even the Lone Star choice. You can get the same part from Summit ($185), Rock Auto ($175), Zip ($225), etc. Lares also sells reman cylinders. I have a Lares power steering pump in my '72 and have had no problems at all.

I was thinking summit and rock auto also... just wondering if I have to balance the system again...
so I got the new slave cylinder in and all back together.. however the bottom hose was a real PIA to get in... after doing some more research to me it looks like the mechanic who previously put this in has reversed lines???? while they go correctly to the right spots I think the hoses should be swapped??? thoughts???

Top line on valve goes to bottom of cylinder, bottom line on valve goes to top of cylinder and loops over lower hose at the pipes.
Does it steer correctly?
Did you look at online diagrams?

Ya steers fine but I think the hose lengths look off to me and think they should be reversed... I'll look for some diagrams tho..

I assume you're saying swap hoses and I'll check mine in a bit and get you a photo. Mine were clearly marked where they go and one hose has a large radius and one a smaller radius on the valve end.
thank you!!
ya, yours look much better then mine... where did you get them???
thanks...
