Currently planning a trip from Fort Knox down to the National Corvette Museum. I recently found out you can drive your own car on the NCM Motorsports Park track, and I've pretty much already decided I'm going to do it. I'm just looking for some input from people who have done it before.
A few questions:
Do you need to wear long pants?
Is a helmet required, or do they provide one?
It looks like they take photos of you on track. Are those included, or are they an extra charge?
Is there a certain day of the week or time of day you'd recommend for the best experience?
I'm also looking for good photo spots around the museum and Motorsports Park.
For the drive down, I'm planning to take KY-112 from Fort Knox rather than the interstate. I'm not in a hurry, and it looks like a much more enjoyable backroad route with better scenery and photo opportunities.
Any recommendations for:
Cool stops along the way
Scenic overlooks or photo locations
Good local restaurants
Things to see around Bowling Green
My plan is to make it a full-day trip between the museum, the driving experience, and exploring the area. I'd appreciate any advice from those who have done it before.

Not sure if they require long pants, but always recommend them on track. I’m sure they have helmets to borrow or rent. Photos I’m sure are extra. Imagine it’s not crowded during the week and sun angle shouldn’t be bad this time of year with days being so long. Earlier in the day when it’s cooler will be easier on the car and you. I ran there once for SCCA TT Nationals and track is a fun one, here’s a lap of mine and some photos I took…
For proper clothing when doing anything that requires a helmet....
My advice...
Wear cotton, never polyester. For a bargain basement race suit (not legal for any type of sanctioned race, but better than jeans or cutoffs), go to a military surplus store and buy a used military Nomex light suit.
Yes, they're used and probably aren't as fire retardant as they once were, but it beats the Heck out of regular clothes.
I have two...one bought in my military days..I did not rate an issued one..
I wear one whenever I fly in friend's warbird aircraft.
Never hurts.
