I want to buy a decent, practical, but somewhat 'upscale' older sedan to be my combat car for a while. As an example, Nelson Mazda down here in Hickory Hollow has a 1999 Audi A4 Quattro with 120,000 miles on it that looks interesting. I was wondering what kind of problems a high-mileage AWD Audi would have...
I really want a car with rear wheel drive or all wheel drive; no trucks or SUVs; manual transmission for preference; and generally known to be dead reliable/bulletproof.
RWD or AWD eliminates Hondas and Acuras, most Toyotas, most GM cars and Ford cars, most Nissans...my 10K price cap eliminates a lot of things that are newer than 1999-2000 unless they've got ungodly mileage.
I've looked at Lexus IS300s and SC300s; Audi A4s and A6s; BMW 3-series cars; Nissan 240SX cars...what else is out there that I should look around for?

So that I quit hijacking the Daytona thread, PM me or e-mail me with ideas? "roguecorvette@yahoo.com".
Look for a newer A4 with lower miles. The Quattro has improved as well as the all around luxury.
My hard ceiling is around $10K *after* I sell my C5, though. The newer A4s don't drop below 10K right now.
Has anyone looked at the Lincoln LS cars? A 2000 LS with average miles, the V6, and a 5-speed, drops into the just-under-$10K range, and they look pretty nice.
Hmmm...Lincoln with dubs and a turbo...
What about a Volvo C70 coupe?
EDIT You know what really sucks? The manual trans version of these cars is rarer than a '67 big block. Auto, auto, auto, auto, and the car-sellers BRAG about the car being 'loaded'.
Well, I got my price, or so it seems. A gent in Omaha is in such a hurry he wants to pick the car up tomorrow (Saturday).
If things go smoothly, I'll pick him up at the airport tomorrow and load him down with all the trinkets I've picked up for the car, and then watch him ride off into the sunset.
If things don't go smoothly, I'll file a police report on Tuesday
(No, I'm taking precautions...but can't be too thin or too paranoid.)
Gut is tight. I know I'll be sitting in traffic in the Toyota, wishing I could be in the 'Vette so I could blow someone off the road...but then again, I've been in the 'Vette, wishing I was in the Toyota so I could quit worrying about the 'Vette.
I just got back from six days in Stateline, Nevada. Ski trip to Heavenly. Sprained shoulder, sprained thumb, wish I was back there right now.
I'm a-gonna sell the Corvette, buy an Excursion, and move to Carson City.
Just read this thread; all I can say is good luck. In about four years, I'm doing the same thing; however it will be a move to southern Utah; with no forwarding address.
And in regard to meeting...can't make it. Getting one hell of a cold, the I/P is partially torn out of the Jeep...replacing all the light with LEDs, and I have about as much energy as a pregnant snake that swallowed a one pound mouse.

I could also deal with southeast Salt Lake City; really close to Park City, Alta, Snowbird, Deer Valley...mmm...."Greatest Snow on Earth".
The crud is funny...on the ski trip, everybody I went with, except me, came down with crud that required bed rest. I ain't got a sniffle, yet. But I think the cold weather and mountain air is my true natural environment.
