Corvette High Performance Driving School Plans Underway
Plans for the first ever NCM sponsored High Performance Driving School are currently being developed for October 2005 – and we need your input! This exciting driving school event will focus on teaching students how to handle a vehicle safely at a controlled and supervised venue. Beginners will learn about weight transfer, handling, cornering forces, braking, “seeing the road” and driving smoothly. Tentative plans call for the event to be held at Carolina Motorsports Park ( Kershaw SC), and the school will have room for a maximum of 70 students using their own Corvettes. Instructors will ride with each student during all track time, and all levels of drivers will have classroom as well as track time scheduled. We expect a minimum of 3.5 hours of track time for each run level over the two-day event, and we estimate that the cost of the event will be no more than $400 for the two-day activities. If you are interested in being a part of this driving school event, please contact NCM Events Manager, Roc Linkov at: roc@corvettemuseum.com or HPDE Event Master Tom Bohlmann thomasbohlmann@yahoo.com
Should have my car ready for some road courses by early summer.
Defineatly going to need fresh brake pads for 3.5 hours of track time at

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I ask only because Kershaw is a much smaller track and the speeds aren't as fast. <crossing fingers>
Thanks,
Mark
Only convertables will be required to have roll bars. Roll bars must meet SCCA Solo I specs for convertables. ( Email me for a copy of the Solo I roll bar specifications ) There roll-bar requirentments are the TRACKS saftey rules, we have just adaptided them as ours also
CMP is a technicley demanding course and speeds will be in the low 100s in two or three sections for the novice and intermediate students. Some of us have been able to get to the mid 130s to low 140s between the carocil ( Faith, Hope & Charity ) turn 7 and turn 8 and 120-125 thought the kink to 135 before entering the braking zone. However, to achive high straight away speeds it is the result of strong cornering abilties and saftey, which must be learned first.
Yes VIR is a wonderful track. I just spent 5 days on VIR full in the last 10 days( THSCC and NASA ). VIR is also rented 2+ years in advance.
Carolina Motorsports park will be our first event. We plan on doing 4 to 6 events in 2006 and hoprfully VIR will one of the events.

Best part - BMW's cars. Your car stays safely in the parking lot. Physics of driving, weight transfer, braking, acceleration, etc the same whether Fiat or Ferrari. Also a chance to drive M3 with new competition pkg. Lastly, their tires (they go through a set of Michelin Pilot Sports in 3 sessions). For an M3, that is about $1,200.

We, Roc of the National Corvette Museum and myself belive it is time for Corvettes to have their own driving schools, or promoted by a Corvette orgainzation. Our schools will be geared tword Corvettes and other high HP cars. They will not be limited to Corvettes Only as there are many F-body guysand other high HP car drivers who also what to learn Higher Performance Driving.
We plan to do one school in 2005 and are also looking to do 4 to 6 schools in 2006 at differnt tracks around the country.
an alternative are schools like Bragg-Smith which THEY provide the corvettes. Yes these schools are a bit more expenisive but they are also first class events.
Check my links in below min sig pic for a list of High Performance Driving Schools. Most are listed in one of those two links.
