www.speeddirect.com fixed

I don't mind buying online or anything like that, I was just really hoping that I could find someplace locally to pick one up tomorrow.

Default wow, too many words for a simple helmet...

Just get in your car drive north on 77 until you reach the Mooresville exit 36. Hang a left then another left, drive a 1/2 mile and on the left you will see Simpson showroom. They have everything you need, helmet, shoes, fireproof underwear, etc.

http://www.simpsonraceproducts.com/c...oresville.aspx

Don't skimp on safety equipment, cripes..a guy with a Lingenfelter twin turbo should be able to find a custom fitted helmet in short order (just kiddin'). I bought my shoes there also, they match my cars..blue & grey. I don't see any need for shoes though, actually...one day I wore them to Walmart and got high marks here in shadytown!...bling bling

The main reason to be picky about your shoes is NOT for driving but for all the WALKING you have to do to be competitive...I made the mistake of wearing new shoes that weren't broke in yet to triad AutoX last sunday..By the time we got to run I wanted to drive barefoot(ouch)

Rick,

Just a few comments on these pictures:

1. Would it not be easier for the local Fire Department to just buy a truck with an engine?

2. If you wore your BUFFO outfit when you are trying to tear phonebooks you might do better.

Mike

1) Well it's actually an optical illusion...the Fire Truck is really in 1st. gear and I'm really just trying to outrun it

2) Buffo the Metro-Sexual Clown is my alter ego and only really put on the outfit when I'm wearing my red shoes

LoL, 1st gear...

Ok, so I got the helmet today. I went to Excel first, but they didn't have any SA2000 or Snell SA2000 helmets. The best they had was the Snell M2000. One guy said he had never even heard of SA... so I didn't feel too comfortable buying anything from them.

Fortunately, BSR was just down the street and they had several basic helmets to choose from, so that is taken care of. I found BSR when I was calling around looking for a fire extinguisher and mounts for the car. They didn't have anything as "light-weight" as that. They apparently only sell serious fire supression systems. So I am still looking for the FE.
They did recommend someplace called Ships... or something like that, in the Concord area.

Anyone ever heard of them?

Hee hee, 1st gear... trying to outrun...

Eckler's has them--if you would have ordered them already it would be here!

Again notice how "Rick's" face is not in clear view in these pics--how convenient

Well for a supposidly $100k car, I was a bit disappointed today. Of course, it was most likely as much my driving skills (or lack there of) as it was the way the car is set up.

The reason I was in such a hurry to get the helmet and FE, was because my dad and I went to the Carolina Motorsports Park today. He was invited by some friends of his and I got to tag along. Of course the car went too.

After a few runs around the track, the car started giving us a transmission fluid temperature warning. Also, by mid-day, I was basically pushing the break pedal all the way to the floor. Those were the main mechanical difficulties.
Also, the car is really set up for drag racing, not auto-x. The damn automatic transmission couldn't make up its mind on some of those corners.

It was still a nice day, and we had a good time. Just a bit frustrating. Oh yeah, and I realized I don't know jack about driving!! What little I may have learned at Bondurant last year.. gone!

Much to learn!

We can help...

What type of brakes do you have....Rotors?...Calipers?...Stainless Steel Lines?...Brake Fluid?....Pads? It is one of those things that are porbably not right, that and you probably need a good brake bleed

Tranny Coolers are not expensive...but to be honest with your set-up I would be really surprised that the package did not come with one??

Getting your car to handle better..to me anyway..is really half the fun of driving it hard. The other half is learning how to drive properly. You obviously don't have any power problems, and in fact I think that an Auto tranny would really help you right now on the tight auto-x as you could bog it a little in 2-3 gear and then just worry about throttle modulation. We can help you with your handling set-up as well. I would be very interested to know what your alignment setting are right now as Drag Racing and Auto-X will be on the other end of the spectrum.

CMP eats brakes, doesn't matter how the car is set up, so don't let that stop you (no pun intented). If you give autocrossing a chance on a good open course, you will love it.

"Drag racing is for fast cars, Autocrossing is no fast drivers!"

The biggest problem most have is trying to find a class after making tons of mods to the car.

I noticed that you have the best attitude a newer driver can have. Never satisfied with your driving and willing to admit there is much to learn. I'm still in the learning mode and still trying to drive to the level of my Vette (long way to go). There is so much to learn and practice that it's like taking a drink from a fire hose. SEAT TIME is the only real teacher. Then talk with guys after each run. Lots of techniques out there. Ask questions on the auto-cross/ road racing part of this forum. There are lots of knowledgable guys here. It's hard to leave frustration at the track, ask me how I know. But this stuff is fun

Sounds like you need a tranny cooler--you already have a Rossler tranny, but LPE might not have put a cooler on it--especially for a drag car.

I see most people get the NAPA brakes for track events and then throw then and the pads away.

Mike--how was the power on the road coarse? Looking for that boost controller yet?

Tom--when's the last time you tried to drink from a fire hose....and why
