Default need advice

Hi, I am picking up my new vert next month at the NCM. I have read alot of the threads and different web sites on Radar detectors and stuff. Given that I will drive mostly in Florida, I wanted some personal opinons on which radar detectors work best in Florida. I understand that the local police and sheriff use radar and laser and the state police seems to use radar more. I have read that the Val. 1 is better for laser threats and the Escort or Bel seemed better with their filtering and less false alarms.I am curious as to what any of you are finding works best for you in Florida. I appreciate any feedback.

forget about counting on ANY det. for Laser - ain't worth the conversation.

On all other points, V1 is it, period.

Nothing will save you from laser. By the time ANY detector warns you, it's far too late.

I use my V1 all over the SE, and it works great. It has more than paid for itself many times over.

V1 vs. the others is a personal thing. Most of the high-end detectors will work fine for you.

My Escort broke, and i know two other people's whos escort 8500 also failed. Nothing happened to any of our detectors besides getting out of waranty bout about 2 or 3 monthes. I will never buy another escort product.

Stick with the V1, it's well worth the extra money.

Thanks for your opinion. I was leaning towards a V1 or a Bel. Sounds like V1 is the way to go.

My V1 hung on my 57 windshield through at least 2 trips to the NCM, one cross country trip to CA and another to MI plus lotsa above-the-speed-limit trips around FL. It still hangs there (when it's not hanging on the 97 windshield )

My advice is to drive smart (set cruise 7-8 mph over, stay right except for passing and fight the urge to respond to challenges) rather than rely on a false sense of security. Works for me. 3 tickets in 2 years with radar detector; none in last 6 without one.

Don't use one if you go through VA.
