Default Northern VA guys, need some guidance

Hey guys, I live in Alexandria in an apartment complex unable to wash my car here. I would like to find a decent car wash, whether it be a full service wash, touchless, DIY or whatever.

Also, Is there a preferred dealership here? I want to find out info regarding my build sheet. There is no sticker in my glove box.

And lastly, best place for an alignment?

Hope to see some of you on Thursday.

Thanks,
Leroy

The only DIY wash I know of is over on Indian Head Rd in Maryland. The only touchless wash I know of is at Exit 166 in Springfield at the Exxon? (not sure what gas station it is, but its the one next to the Wendy's). I go there if I need the undercarriage cleaned, no brushes just jets.

Dealer -- a lot of people will say Koon's Chevy

There is also a DIY wash on biz route 234 in Manassas.

Best dealer service is with Joe Malo, Corvette Mechanic, at:

Koons Chevrolet
2000 Chain Bridge Road
Vienna, VA 22182

Bill Appel (service rep)
703-448-7206

If you join the NoVa Corvette Club, there are discounts to members for parts and service at Koons.

As far as alignment, a question...is your ride lowered or stock height? If stock then you can stay with Koons. If lowered, you won't be able to get on their rack. You would have see Jason, alignment specialist, at:

Jim McKay Chevrolet
3509 University Drive
Fairfax, VA 22030

Nick Capozio (service rep)
703-591-4800

They can accommodate lowered vettes and can 'dial in' whatever numbers you want for camber, caster, and toe-in. Can do track alignments, street alignments, whatever...

As for the build sheet...you can buy one for your car from the National Corvette Museum for a nominal fee.
http://www.corvettemuseum.com/

Good luck!

Exit 166, Is that 7100? If so, I know where that one is. I forgot it had a car wash. Thanks for the info.

The car is not lowered, but it will be as soon as I get some tools here and a place to do it. Probably not any lower than the stock bolts will go though.

I look into the NoVa Corvette Club, but as of right now, I am leaving at the end of this year.

Thanks for your help guys.

Yup, I think it that is 7100. If you are coming from the North, you'll take the Backlick Road exit right below the mixing bowl, turn right at the 1st stop light, and left at the next (which will put you on 7100) and carries you over the interstate. The gas station/wendys will be at the next stoplight on the left.

There is an automatic carwash / hand dry over in Springfield down from the mall, I think its off Commerce street. I took the C5 through there (before I found the true touchless wash at the gas station) once and it did NO damage. I waved off the hand dryers and just dealt with the fans, then I wiped it off myself.

I have been to that gas station before, just didn't notice that it had a car wash. Actually, now that I think about it, I did know it had a car wash. I got gas in the vette there a few days ago and it did ask if I wanted a car wash. I declined because it was raining.

Even if it is lowered on stock bolts, you are better off getting onto Jim McKay's rack.

We have long and short term members, everyone with a vette is welcome to join.

Best of luck to you.

I just thought about it again and the last directions were pretty vague. The car wash is behind the Dunkin Donuts off of Commerce St. I don't know exactly how to explain where Commerce is but its in the area of Dragon Sea Buffet, Dunkin Donuts and the Safford Dodge dealership.

There is also a DIY wash on RT 1 in Woodbridge about 2 blocks after 234/Gordon Blvd.

I can't help you with any shop recommendations. People here scare me with the $$ they charge. Heck anytime my girl takes her Mustang or Jeep to the Jiffy lube without me she comes back with like a $50.00 oil change.

Cool, I'll check that out....afer the snow of course.

My parents used to own an auto parts store back home in Athens Ohio so I have some good connections there to get work done that I can't/ won't do myself. OIl changes I would typically do myself too, but don't know what I would do with the usde oil. Speaking of which, is there a good place to go for oil changes? I'm not sure what's in the engine now, but I planned to use Mobil 1. I am still around 50-60% on DIC.

I change my oil at BlueWasp Motorsports when needed, but I let the DIC run down to 10-15% life. I'm hoping to have a scissor lift by the summer so I can do it in my own garage.
