Atten: Nc Drivers

I used to be able to go October - January with expired stickers every year but the state is now using an automatic $250 fine for even 1 day over. Just wanted to save you all some mod money
pulled up to a roadblock inspection. Near Edenton with local/State
Police and in Manteo/Dare County.
Plenty of people pulled, getting tickets. Of course my vette is Florida
tagged, so I they barely blinked at me.
. If you have a car or truck, say a 97 Chevy truck with 250k miles on it and it had a 5.7 litre 350 in it, you CAN'T put that 1980 model 350 that your cousin has sitting is his shop in it, because the truck came with all the neccessary smog equipment, even though it may have 250k miles on it and you just haul hay with it. You are not supposed to lift a vehicle anymore, so legally if you have a 4x4 truck and the headlights are higher than 48" (I think is what it is) off the ground they can ticket you. They are trying to kill our hobby, I don't see why SEMA isn't lobbying them everyday!!!!!

Another thing is even if a car isnt licenced (i have my old car at my parents with no plates and doesnt drive) it STILL has to have a current inspection

The only true thing in this thread is about the original eqpt. Your 95 car must meet 95 emissions. 87 must meet 87 emissions. However, 95 and older is a VISUAL inspection.
Most car guys in NC "know a guy." Ask around.

I guess I'll do my own checking...gotta love all of the experts.
Registration Denial / Penalties
Under General Statute 20-183.8A, if a vehicle-owner fails to pass a Safety & Emissions Inspection within four (4) months of the expiration of the existing inspection sticker, the vehicle owner will receive the civil penalty and be unable to renew the registration until the vehicles passes an emissions inspection.
You will only receive one (1) official warning letter through the mail within a four (4) month period before the Penalty & Registration Block is actually issued. However, if you are stopped by a law enforcement officer, you are subject to be cited with a traffic ticket any time you are driving the vehicle if the sticker has expired. You will be liable for a $100.00 fee/penalty if you own a 1977-1980 vehicle and a $250.00 fee/penalty if your vehicle is a 1981 or newer model.
§ 20‑183.8A. Civil penalties against motorists for emissions violations.
The Division shall assess a civil penalty against a person who owns or leases a vehicle that is subject to an emissions inspection and who does any of the following:
(1) Fails to have the vehicle inspected within four months after it is required to be inspected under this Part.
(2) Instructs or allows a person to tamper with an emission control device of the vehicle so as to make the device inoperative or fail to work properly.
(3) Incorrectly states the county of registration of the vehicle to avoid having an emissions inspection of the vehicle.
The amount of penalty is one hundred dollars ($100.00) if the vehicle is a pre‑1981 vehicle and two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) if the vehicle is a 1981 or newer model vehicle. As provided in G.S. 20‑54, the registration of a vehicle may not be renewed until a penalty imposed under this section has been paid. (1993 (Reg. Sess., 1994), c. 754, ss. 1, 8; 1998‑212, s. 27.6(b).)
So the one day rumor is
Also stated in this thread which again I believe is BS...if a car is not registered/licensed how is it supposed to get inspected...IF you aren't/can't drive the freakin' thing?
Got to love the internet.
