The best practice for correct steering can be had at Deal's Gap. Maintain grip at 3 and 9 and try not to shuffle the hands too much. This is great practice for the roadcourse. There is absolutely no need to exceed the speed limit, just concentrate on correct steering.
If you want to drive fast, do it on the track. I've seen Vetts and bikes passing on the Dragon's twisty's without consideration of who or what they'll meet. There are kids in those vehicles coming at you. Join NCCC, SCCA, NASA or any other of the clubs that regularly have track events. It may be my grandkids you're aiming at. Want to be daring. Just play Solitare Russion Roulette with a .45. No one but you taking a chance that way.

...and that is exactly my point. I avoid the road because of all the idiots that drive down it. I had rather follow a motorcycle doing twice the speed limit than your average family vacationing with a RV or boat in tow. Trailers and Semis IMO should not be allowed on the Dragon.

Truckers just look at a map and see the shortest route between two points, never knowing what's ahead of them.......unfortunately.
And then there's people doing illegal transport stuff......if you know what I mean.
Reagrdless, everyone be careful and have a great time! It CAN be fun!

Not entirely true. You're looking for any possible slow downs on the
route as well, like construction and lower speed limits. Taking an 18
wheeler down US129 is somebody being lazy and/or a local coming
home.

It doesn't have a thing to do with being lazy. When it costs over 50cents per mile for fuel to run a truck, you take the shortest route you can find. Maps dont tell how bad the roads are, they just tell you which ones you cannot drive on. The dragon is not restricted for trucks.

Actually, these trucks are over weight limits and they use 129 in order to bypass the weigh stations.
The only scales around there is in Knoxville, Tn or Ashville, NC. There are plenty of other roads to get around the scales. People always try to make trucks out to be the bad guys, but everything you buy at the store was hauled there on a truck.

I know the truckers may not alway know what the road maybe like which is why the DOT should put signs out resticting the use of the road. Also the incident about was not a trucker it was some tourist pulling a trailer which IMO is even scarier.
As for truckers many people want to ban them from the fast lanes on the hwy which is IMO I trust the average trucker far more than the average driver.
