I emailed you (and copied everyone else) in reference to trying to consolidate the caravans down on the 28th. In case anyone missed it, I'll paste it here too.
Personally I think it would be great to get the whole group together for the final leg of the trip to Canaveral.
As the schedule stood, the East Coast caravan was leaving Spartanburg, SC at 6:45 AM, Columbia, SC at 8:15 AM, and Savannah, GA at 11:00 AM. This would have put us into the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area by about 1:30-2:00 PM.
Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but I suspect it would be easier on all participants if the East Coast caravan were to leave a little later rather than having the GA/AL crew leave earlier. If we moved all of the times up 2 hours, that would probably put us into St. Augustine around 3:30 PM which should be just about right.
What we need to agree upon is the rendezvous point in the St. Augustine area. I recall some mention of an exit off of I-95 south of Jacksonville where there were some outlet malls etc. This would probably be a good spot. Does anyone know the exit number? We could all gather there and allow a period of time for any stragglers to catch up, maybe refuel, get a snack, etc. and then make the final portion of the drive as one big group.
Does this work for everyone?
Thanks,
Dave
I have two Visitor Complex tickets and two Bus Passes. Also, I have a room reserved at the Comfort Inn & Suites on A1A for Wednesday & Thursday nights (at $59.95/night!). If anyone's interested I'll look into transferring the room reservation...but I will need to cancel them pretty soon if not.
I'll be watching from my back porch. :cry :cry :cry
We are continuing to exchange emails and fine tune the caravan departure times so that both the East Coast and the GA/AL/FL groups can meet in St. Augustine and combine for the final portion of the drive down.
In case anyone didn't get it, here are the current tentative times (subject to change of course:rolleyes: :D).
Spartanburg, SC - depart I-26 exit #22 at 8:15 AM
Columbia, SC - depart I-26/I-77 at 9:45 AM
Savannah, GA - depart I-95 exit #94 at 12:30 PM
St. Augustine, FL - arrive I-95 exit #95 (Sonny's BBQ) at approx. 3:00 PM
Hope this works for everyone!
Dave

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Our group rate will be $14, rather than the usual $20. That includes a tour of Daytona International and admission to Daytona USA.
The new 32-seat simulator ride called "Daytona Dream Laps" is included in the admission price. The other new ride, "Acceleration Alley," is an additional $5 per ride.

The Daytona USA side trip sounds like an excellent time and a great excuse for a nice little caravan up US-1 !!
Now that the time is drawing nearer, the excitement is really starting to kick in. We can't wait to get out of town and see all of the exciting sights in store for us. Particularly all of these awesome 'vettes!!
I have a question for the more experienced members regarding road trips and keeping your car clean...
How do you clean your car while on trips and in between washings? Do you take it to a local car wash and hand wash it in the stall? Do you bring your own bucket and sponge and wash it in the hotel parking lot? Do you just say screw it and clean the car when you get home?
I was thinking that I would give the car a thorough cleaning before we left (of course) and then just bring along the trusty ol' Zaino Z6 for daily touch ups... What do you guys say??
Thanks,
Dave
:smash:

I figure the Corvette's gonna kill most of the bugs it comes within a mile of along the way. ;) But if the Vette leaves home Zaino-slick, the bugs are easier to wash off. Just don't let 'em stay there so long they dry and the bug juice turns to super glue.
I carry a bucket, sponges (one for the wheels, one for the paint), a wheel brush, Zaino wash concentrate, Z6, a California water blade, a synthetic chamois and a soft-white-made-in-the-USA-100-percent-cotton towel! :yesnod:  :yesnod: That's what the well in the trunk of a Corvette is for -- to carry your car washing and cleaning supplies! ;)
A day or so before I'm going to leave home, I'll call the hotel/motel where I'm going to be staying and tell them I always have to wash my car when I arrive from a road trip and need to know if they can give me access to water and a hose.
In Bowling Green, this is no problem. The hotel/motel operators understand that Covette folks are crazy and they humor us. I've had pretty good luck in other locations, too. And I'm planning on calling the Courtyard by Marriott at Cocoa Beach next week to seek their cooperation on this matter.
If they cooperate, everybody can come by and wash. If they don't, we'll try the Holiday Inn and then the Hilton and then ... well, you get the idea.
If all else fails, I'll go to a coin-operated spray car wash. But I prefer washing with fresh water and my own soap.
You are definitely doing a great job in organizing this event.

I second that.....I know some of you want me to bring copies of the VETTE Dreams video with me.For those who have missed the hype, take a look at a clip from the video..

Thanks for the tips!!
Peach,
That is a great video clip!! You'll have some of these for sale at the launch??
See you all in 6 days!

The worst-case scenario has occurred for us, one of the parts for our new engine did not arrive, subsequently, we are not attending the Launch.
Hopefully you all take plenty of photos & post them here.

The revised meeting/departure times are listed a few posts up in this thread and have also been sent out via email. As for the cell phone number, Sully may still have those.
Dave

Mike, I'm going to update Sully's list of caravan participants and send it out and ask Sully to update his caravan meeting points web page as soon as everybody on the caravan list checks off on the new times. Still need to hear whether the times work for you. And, yes, the list will have cell phone numbers on it. :yesnod:
I've sent out a bunch of e-mails today, trying to make sure all the angles are covered on our Corvette adventure. Let me know if you didn't get at least two. Some of you got more. :D
