ONE + ONE MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN BEGINS APRIL 1ST, 2002
The Museum's 2002 One + One annual membership campaign is scheduled to begin April 1st, 2002. The program will reward current members recruiting new members, with special incentive gifts donated to the Museum by automotive accessory companies, Chevrolet dealers and other business supporters. In addition to being eligible to win through the prize drawing scheduled for August 1, 2002, members who recruit will also receive special appreciation gifts. The 2001 campaign brought in 312 new members, taking the Museum's current membership to over 10,000 members. "It takes members sharing their experiences and loyalty to others to recruit new members to the Museum," states Membership Service Manager Stephanie Ferrell. "This year's campaign is rewarding to both the recruiter and the new member. We encourage each current member to recruit at least one new member through the program." One + One campaign information will be made available via the Museum's website at: http://www.corvettemuseum.com on April 1st. CORVETTE C5-R WINS SEBRING GTS CLASS - GM CORVETTE RACING REPORT
Canadian Ron Fellows, American Johnny O'Connell and Englishman Oliver Gavin endured cockpit temperatures that approached 160 degrees on their way to a GTS class win in the 50th Anniversary edition of the 12-Hours of Sebring. It was class win number 14 for Corvette in the 50 years of the endurance event and the first in four tries for the C5-R factory backed racer. The winning Corvette ran flawlessly, covering 317 laps of the 3.7 mile road circuit over the 12 hour period to place 9th overall among the 59 car field. The two Millennium Yellow team cars ran 1 - 2 in class until late in the seventh hour when the throttle linkage stuck as the No. 4 GM Goodwrench Corvette Driver Andy Pilgrim, was able to drive the heavily damaged car to the pits where the crew replaced the entire front body work, wiring, lights and fluids in a lengthy pitstop. "The throttle stuck just as I was going into the corner and I lifted and it started to slow down but then it kept going. I realized the throttle was stuck, "said Pilgrim. "By that time the car was in the "marbles" and it was too late. I was just a passenger until we hit the tire wall and did serious damage to the front-end bodywork." The repaired car returned to the race in approximately 42nd position. Collins, Pilgrim and Frank Freon pushed to the limit to finish 4th in the GTS class and 14th overall. The Corvette Racing team will begin immediate preparation to return to France to defend last year's 1 - 2 finish in the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. Preparations for that event will include participation in the one-day test session in May for the June race.
