Naples Florida advice needed
There is a possibility that we will retire there next year.
Any pros or cons?
Any deal breakers to Corvette ownership there? I have a C4 coupe.
Wherever we go my wife would probably teach part time at a local college and I would also want to work a few days a month in health care. I currently am a Radiographer (X-ray) at an Urgent Care/Occupational medicine center.
I have been to the Atlantic side (Fort Pierce) a couple of times and like it there. Any difference between the East side and the West side of the state?
Thanks!
Huge difference between West and East side. West side is more laid back, little older in terms of neighborhoods, etc. and more established. East side is Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Daytona. More stuff to do but a little crazier.
BTW, if you settle on the West, you will love the Gulf. However, lot of people like the East because of proximity to Bahamas and the Atlantic.
And Florida is Vette heaven. Lots of Vettes and plenty of people who work on them.
Palm beach gardens is the best of both of the above described worlds - laid back...with lots of stuff to do about 30 minutes south, orlando 1.75 hours north, miami hour south.
I have lived on the East coast of Florida most of my life. Currently I live in Palm Beach County. Grew up in Miami-Dade County, raised my kids in Broward County and moved up here when the kids left the house for school.
The west coast (Naples/Fort Myers) is more affected by the winter influx of snowbirds and it can get crowded.
I would take some vacation time and visit some areas you are considering retiring to. There are a lot of great places to retire to in Florida and most of them have an active Corvette community. The Naples area has a couple of very large active clubs, as does the Palm Beach area.
If you like the urban scene I would suggest the I-4 corridor which provides easy access to the Orlando area.
One of my sons resides in the Tampa area which is also very nice and not quite as crowded as other urban areas.
The Fort Pierce/Vero Beach area is more rural and not so crowded.

Thanks for the advice.
Rocketman - I snapped this pic in Aug '08. Poor neglected C4 that was sitting in a parking area by the bridge going across Lake Worth from W Palm Beach.
I was killing some time driving around before returning my rental car. The drive along the beach was most impressive what with all the mansions and such.
