Anyone know how this road is from the Fl Border (Tallahasse) all the way to Houston? Bumpy? Smooth? Well Lit? Individual State residents (LA, Tx, AL, MISS.), please feel free to chime in. TIA
Made that trip a few times. My experience has been- watch speed around Mobile and also at the Mississippi/ La border. All in all it is a nice smooth trip, though there are a few spots, as mentioned above where it is a long stretch between gas/restroom facilities.
I agree with shoptek. I lived in MS between Mobile, AL and Biloxi, MS. for three years. Slow down when you cross the bridge into Mobile then cruise until you get past the I65 interchange then floor it until you get to the state line... Traffic normally is running a 90+ so I always thought the 70mph posted was just a suggestion. The wife normally made the run on I10 from Mobile to Biloxi at over 100.. Good luck...
Get off of I-10 in Slidell, LA and onto I-12. I-12 will merge with I-10 again in Baton Rouge. That keeps you from going through New Orleans and circling Lake Pontchartrain. I-12 is a more strait shot for you, and probably the best interstate (condition wise) in Louisiana.
On I-10 Between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, don't speed much. You will be on a bridge most of the way and it is heavily patrolled.
:seeya I travel I-10 when I go visit my family in San Antonio, Texas and I'm in South Carolina. I see more State Troopers in Fl. than any where else. :yesnod: Usually to the east of Tallahase closer to Jacksonville. The Interstate in question is really pretty good except for some road construction in two area's. One area is in La. but the roads not bad... ( I think it's between Lafayette and Lake Charles?) Second area is in Texas between Beaumont to Houston (closer to the Beaumont area) some un-even road thru construction area after that pretty smooth.
If you are going to fill up your gas tank in Tallahasse Fl. you probably can make it to Hammond La. on I-12 fill-up and your other gas stop well probably be in Houston, Tx.
Places to watch out for Cops from my past adventures are in Pensacola Fl. near the last rest area in the state of Fl.,--- coming out of the tunnel in Mobil Al.,--- La. saw a couple state troopers cruising not a problem,--- in Houston you'll see more city cops cruising and hiding under overpasses.
I hope this helps you some and have a safe trip. :yesnod: Joe
