Oil Change $$$$$$
So oil and filter change on my 2017 C7 GS with Mobil 1.........$237 (oil was $16.67 / qt.) at my local Chevy dealer. Is it just me or does that seem insane?

I do it myself in 15 minutes tops, and only the $10qt oil, so yes.

I'm lucky, if I don't do it myself I call my buddy who owns a Corvette Performance shop and set up a time to have his guys do it with my supplied materials....I pay for 30 min labor and maybe buy the guy lunch

On the first one they gave me a 10% discount for being prior military and the second one they gave me a 50% discount because I purchased the car from them, so my out the door costs were $89.85 and $56.50. At my age and not having equipment needed to jack up the car, it worth it to me to have them do it.

Just go to the Walmart website and search for Mobil1 0w-40w and all options will come up. I have my wife order it for pickup with the groceries. Its not always on the shelf but they can order it for you. I've done it several times. They also sell smaller sizes like the 1 gallon (5qts) containers for roughly $28.

What formula do you want? i didn't see any where in the thread where someone said a particular formula... the only thing that was stated was Mobil1. With the 0w-40w you only have 3 Mobil 1 options and two of them are European. See below information:
Dwain
- 0w-40w FS - European Formula (one i posted earlier)
- 0w-40w ESP - Also European formula - Approved for GM dexos2
- 0w-40w Supercar - Approved for GMdexosR per Mobil 1 website.

You are correct, you really have NO IDEA which oil your service tech will select and then charge you the premium price. For that reason plus a few others, I do my own oil and filter service not to save money, but because I know it’s done right. This forum is littered with stories of dry sumps overfilled because the tech did not drain BOTH plugs.
Among the above oil options, the new Supercar oil is the same oil as ESP 0w40, just rebranded to solve the oil confusion with European formula. Check the Mobil website to verify. ESP stands for Exhaust System Protection, not anything European. European oil specification is different than ours, mainly because fuel specs are different that affect catalytic converter life. According to my interweb reading, it has nothing to do with engine life. Instead, it boils down to SAPS content in the oil you select. That is, Sulfated Ash, Phosphorus, and Sulfur. The European spec oil has too much SAPS that will harm our cats. I’m certain that only one or two oil change cycles will probably have no real effect on your cats, but multiples will likely shorten cat life considerably. Again, check it all out on the interweb.
Just my 2 cents and Save the Wave,
