What are the major AutoX groups in NC? I checked a couple links a few weeks ago and found some I was interested in. I saved one link but not the other. Help.
You need to check out the National Council of Corvette clubs and race with them. I know there is a big race Labor day weekend and then there is 3 weekends in Oct of racing. I don't have the Carolina regions website link out here but go to google and do a search for NCCC or Carolina region of the NCCC and you can get a lot of info there.
The NCCC offers a lot more runs in a weekend for a much better price than you'll get at an SCCA autocross. With the NCCC, the courses are designed for vettes and you are grouped with Corvettes similar to yours. They also have a good street tire class if your new to the sport.
You guys in the Charlotte and Raleigh area, if you want to try a fun, fast autocross weekend come the Labor Day Weekend Autocross weekend in Sanford, NC. There wil be a different course layout each day, this is a run/run event, nor a work/run event like SCCA, you show up, get 14 runs each day and leave with a really big grin. Each course will be just under a mile in length and open.
Lunch will be provided on Sat and Sun.
This event is open to all Corvettes and will be sun under the competition ruls of NCCC.
All new drivers are welcome, we will introduce you to a new sport that you can really enjoy.
You can download the event flyer at the sites noted in the above post or contact me directly.
Please note this Pre-Regristation only, no entries at the gate.
You will enjoy Sanford, there are three islands between the runway and taxi way, over the 3 days I plan on using all but a small area of the runway and just about all of the taxi way.
I'm going to Sanford this coming Friday to do some measuring and complete hotel and lunch arrangements. If your off by chance I will be there around 12 noon.
I'm planning on being there. I want to watch Dave Cooper from R&D Racing. And I want to check things out to see if I want to get into this. What are the restrictions on verts?
Wow, fantastic results. The Tarheel link is the the one I was looking for. I'll stop in at that Labor Day NCCC event on Saturday. Another nice looking club!
It looks like I'll miss another couple races. We have just got another 30 day extension out here. So CMP is out along with the other 2 races coming up in Oct.
I sure wish I could make it Labor day because Mike always put together some good courses. I guess the new Hoosiers will have to sit in the garage a bit longer.
See ya,
Ed
The Labor Day Weekend event is not being hosted by the Tarheel Sports Car Group. It is being hosted by the Carolina Autocross Team. The site is one of the sites that Tarheel uses and they have been a great help in assisting us in our efforts to host the event.
If you plan on running the event you need to be aware the event is pre-resistration only.
There will be no problem for convertables, the event is a "low-speed", if it were a "high speed" event convertables would be required to have a roll bar. Classes and rules will be per NCCC.
