Low speed NCCC autocross in Rocky Mount, NC on July 28th and 29th. 7 events both days.
The race will be at the old airport off of NC 43 and Thorpe Road.
Hotel is the Fairfield Inn too.
Let me know if any one wants more info.
In March there was about 50 vettes running on Saturday. A lot of fun.

This is a good event even if you do not race come out and watch the vettes.
It is being sponsored by two Corvette clubs, Raleigh, Corvettes International and Twin Rivers club. No charge to watch.
Off of US 64 take NC 43 north to Thorpe Road, just past the Amoco station turn right and look for sign to statium parking, This will take you to the west entrance. It is an old airport runway behind the school. Nothing to indicate an airport, you'll just have to look for the event.

Questions.
I have never EVER done any sort of auto crossing, so I'm sure my times would bite. However, it sounds like a blast!
Would I need a helmet?
Do I need to register somewhere or just show up?

Qwkslvr,
Yes, you will need a helment. Sometimes you can borrow one but it is better if you have your own.
You do not need to pre registor, just show up before 8:00am and registor, there will be a charge to race but I do not know how much.

Red is right on...
but look at the helmet you want to use, becuase it has to have a SNELL 95 or newer rating.
Just look inside the helmet at the tag, and it will say if it has the SNELL 95 or newer rating! If you have a question, bring the helmet, and when they tech your car, they will look at your helmet.
Last time I ran in Rocky Mount, (March)cost was about 40 bucks each day. Sounds like a lot, but when you think about it, you will be going around the course at least 14 times. Now go race with an SCCA or other autocross club and you wil pay 20-30 bucks to run 3 or 4 times.
And don't worry about those times. Just get out there have some fun, and if you have questions ask. People will help you.
You don't need any race tires, there is a class for street tires, and you will compete against other vettes similar to yours.
But most important, just have fun!

If nothing else I at least hope to make it out to watch. I'd prefer to get more familiar with the car. I barely have a 1000 miles on it and am just now starting to get on it a little harder. I have not really approached it's limits. Not even close. Well, except for straight line blasts.
Sounds like I can go to any old motorcycle shop and grab a helemt. Right?
The only rule I would make up is no laughing At least not in my face
Last thing, I really don't want to hurt the car. What is most dangerous part? Can't image a orange cone could do too much damage, but as I said, never done, or seen AutoX.

I understand about getting familiar with the car. But you can always take it easy the first couple times, until you do feel comfortable.
I have taken many orange cones on door panels, bumpers, wheels and everything buffs right out. That is no big deal there.

Then what does "low speed autocross" mean?..are people running as hard as they can?

The NCCC rulebook states a lowspeed autocross is under 100mph. Meaning the course must be set up so the cars cann't get up to 100mph. Most courses don't even g0 to 70mph. It all depends the layout of the course.
Last March, I hit 70mph just before I had to get hard into the brakes.
And yes, most people run as hard as they can. But remember smooth is fast. You will see the guys who drive the course smooth, will be the guys running the quick times. You don't need a high horsepower car to run very close to the top. It all comes with practice.
Hope to see you there.
