A lot lizard at the stealership tried to tell me that the tires from tire rack are "old" and not very good because they're "two years on the shelf". Now, I have bought tires from them for my Benz, they lasted 25K miles and I need new rear tires for the Benz again....just wanted to know what everyone on CF thinks. Michellin Pilot Sports.
I heard that Costco has good prices if you're a member or know someone that is. They do carry Michelin and I heard that in their coupon book right now there's an additional $80 savings?

Generally, tires at Tirerack are fresh, unless you are looking for some very rare sizes. The tires I've purchased over the years from them have been fine. Not necessarily so from local dealers. Do you know how to read the date codes on the tires? There is a four digit code on the inside sidewall that is the week and year of manufacture. (wwyy)
A tire less than a year old is fresh. A tire more than five years old should not be sold, or used, in my humble opinion.

ONLY 25k on the rears, someone has a HEAVY right foot!
Personally I don`t believe ANY so called facts a dealer gives me!
I got mine at Costco and have had NO problems with them. they are now 2 years old....just like that story from your buddy at the dealership. If you can wait for the Costco "Passport to Savings" and you should be able to save a cool $60.00 bucks or so. I love mine and I don't worry about "run craps".
Hey Guys, I manage the Costco Tire Shop in Yorba Linda. We put many a set of tires on C5's and C6's. You can get $80 off a set of 4 Michelins through Sept 2nd. Unfortunately the run flat Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires are no longer available. So if you are willing to go with a non-run flat tire, may I suggest the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. My son has them on his Z06, and he scares the hell out me, but they stick like glue and are progressive if you push them hard enough to let go. If you want an all season, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is a great choice, has a treadwear of 400 as well. My members tell me how much better they like them than the Goodyears.
Of course he's going to tell you that; the Tirerack is competition. Personally, I get all my tires from the "rack", primarily because of their price, but also because of their tremendous selection from which to choose. I agree with sd7ss that tires have a useful life of about 5 years and I really doubt that the rack sells anything approaching that age.
PS2s are very good tires (4rth place out of 11 in Car % Driver's extensive tire test), but for the best tires, bar none, the Goodyear
GSD3s rule the roost. They stick so well on both dry and wet roads, it's scary. Any tire that can generate .82gs on wet roads deserves to be in the Guiness book of world records, IMO!
These are the Pilot Sports on my E55. Run Flats. Personally, I think he is just trying to take advantage of me. Last time I checked, they didn't sell that size at Costco, but I will definately check it out.
For tires, try Service Specialists in Irvine. Great prices. I have been using them for years now. You won't be sorry. Major cross streets are Bake and Rockfield.
BTW, they were able to get me a set of GS-D3's in the sizes I wanted when no one else could. Not even Tire Rack and their deep inventory. Also, Goodyear was on strike at the time so tire availability was minimal. I was impressed to say the least .
It is his comment about "old tires", that is, tires are no good after being on the shelf for two years that bothered me and I want to know what you all think....I have always put Michelin PS on the E55 and like them.
