Default Got Caught

Coming up North 5 around J street in Chula Vista I saw a State Trooper coming up quick in the #1 lane. He pulls ahead a little, looks down at my front, slows down pulls in behind to pull me over. No front plate, so a fix it ticket.

I was in the wrong, so tomorrow I'll be putting the front plate on. I'll have to admit, one of the nicest officers I've met. Now to see whats out there to make the front semi nice looking.

Let me get this right. No front plate you got a ticket and a really nice cop? Does not compute. I'm a really nice person so let's make you punch holes in your front bumper and pay the state cause the taxpayer is the bad guy.

Now that's really messed up

Can't do your job and be a nice person...?

Do you........

Get mad at the grocery clerk for charging you for all your groceries.....? Hey, look at the economy, he/she could have let a few things slide by.

Get mad at the gas station attendant for charging you for your gas.....? Hey, we all know the price is artificially inflated and flat out unfair.

etc, etc, etc,

To the OP... I hope you can find a front plate mount that you won't find too ugly... good luck..

It's really a chicken$hit thing to get pulled over for, I could see them tacking this on if they got you doing something really wrong.

Like many of us here, the OP has chosen to do something contrary to the CA vehicle code which is a ticketable offense, so he got pulled over. After his incident he chose to post here stating that the officer has the ability to be cordial, even "nice" when doing what many consider to be bothersome.

Just curious, to what degree of wrong does it need to be in order for it to not be C/S?

I was pulled over by CHP not too long ago in the Chula Vista for speeding on radar. I was given a choice of a fix-it for no front plate, or the speeding ticket. I chose the fix-it, and thanked the officer... I too thought he was being quite nice. When I think about how many times each week that I pass a LEO I choose to consider myself lucky.

Reread my post BLUE Blood. I said being pulled over for no front plate is chicken$hit.

I fully expect that if I'm pulled over for a moving violation that I'll have the no plate or too much tint slapped on top of that violation. The OP was not endangering anyone else by not having a front plate.

I don't no why you were given a choice Blue Blood , but since you're so righteous you should have insisted he give you a ticket for both the speeding and the plate fix it.

I'm also kind of shocked why everyone would not just expect a LEO to be civil and polite when he makes a traffic stop.

On the C5, front plate don't look to bad if you have the stock filler that came with the car. Paint it the body color and it's not terrible.

I do agree getting pulled over on the Freeway for a fix-it is a bit much, but all these posts about this made me just put the plate on, paint the stock filler to match and be done with it.

Now, I don't feel like I have to look over my shoulder all the time.

I'm going to get the clear filer plate that matches the body contours paint it black around the edges so it matches my black screens.

I don't think it's chicken$^&$ he pulled me over, he was doing his job.

Just put the plate on to get ticket signed off. Damn is it UGLY. Time to get rid of the Vette. (j/k) Why did GM not think of this......

I did the front plate mod, so I had to use the side mount hide-a-plate mount. I think the regular mounting spot with painted edges looks best

I don't think he's being righteous. I think he's glad that the officer gave him a choice between a fix-it ticket and a moving violation that carries a fine and impacts his driving record.

The point being made is clear. A LEO is well within his professional description to give you a ticket without a front plate. The fact that you are moving is irrelevant. If you choose not to have a front plate. Then be prepared to get a ticket.

By the way. I'll tell you about a jerk of a LEO. I was pulled over for a front plate. Then she added no seat belt which I unhooked to get my license and registration. In traffic court she claimed to have seen the buckle before pulling me over. The buckle on GM products is below the door when it's unbuckled.

The LEO could have spoiled Blue Blood's day. Instead he made it.

Man, the first thing I do when I buy a car is remove the front license plate. If I had it off a regular car and got a ticket, I'd comply, but there's no way i'm drilling holes in my vette to put one on. Guess the cops around me are just not as bored as where you guys live. LOL

Man... I hear these stories and I feel really fortunate. Its been over 4 years that I am running without a front plate. I have never been stopped. I do my best to drive within the speed limit and avoid attention-getter maneuvers which I presume has helped. But all in all... perhaps it is not matter of "if" but "when"...

Sorry in my book its still a chicken$hit reason to make a potentially dangerous highway stop; a speeding ticket not so much. Besides what gives any Leo the authority to make a call for what he will and won't cite you for arbitrarily?

Taxpayers pay their salary and I'm not satisfied that they'd use taxpayer funds to pull highway stops to write up no front plate tickets, how is that using my tax dollars to 'protect and serve'.

If they want to make my day then they should get some of the dangerous drivers and obviously unsafe vehicles off the road.

I would much rather have highway police using there time looking for DUI drivers behind the wheel instead of cars with missing front license plates. Drunk driving is the number one killer on our highways, not missing front plates. While an over zealous officer is spending his valuable time writing citations for missing front plates a drunk driver that just might have been pulled over rams into a car wiping out a whole family. With our strained government budgets priorities need to be examined here.

How many drunk drivers are there on the roads at 8:30am?

frank dupuy, if you really are a fireman, why should we pay for you to sit on your but waiting for a fire/accident. Isn't that a waste of government money? I don't think so. Are you not going to go to a fire/accident because you "think" it's chicken$#@!? No, because it's your job, just like the police officers job to write citations be it small or big.
