After Battery Replacement C0710 C0253 - Repair Completed - Thank You Edwin and Angel
(2009 C6 Corvette SWPS - Pink wire is 12 volts / Black is ground / tan-white and Green-black are feed back wires)
Pictures Above:
-Top Picture is the new one from RockAuto, which shows everything in its correct place
-Second picture is one with it still in the Vette
-The rest of the pictures are of it removed for all to see the bearing out of its housing and proper place as well as the SWPS
A while back I ended up with the Code C0710 So I did some research and found out that the 2009 SWPS is much different than the earlier model C6's and I couldn't use the "COMB" fix repair from GM (GM 19179794) - so I had to inspect what was going on and low and behold I found that after I replaced my Battery everything had reset, YES even the steering column extended full length and then all the way back in, even my seats were out of whack after the battery replacement -
Now I never really moved my steering column much, since there was no need, but apparently when it went full extension after the battery replacement, the bearing got stuck/froze to the shaft and popped the SWPS out of the housing and the end cap popped off as well and left it floating, this is what gave the initial C0710 code, which disabled my Active Handling (A/H) -
I felt it safer to replace the whole column rather than attempt to have the bearing pressed back up (yes and I mean pressed since it will not budge from its current frozen position) I decided it would be best to keep this column for any parts for the future if needed - (SWPS included )
I had the steering column installed by Edwin and Angel (Vette specialist mechanic here in SoCal as many of us know and appreciate as well as his son Angel), I purchased a brand new column from RockAuto -
The entire steering column was just over $737 -
After Edwin and his son installed the new column all was perfect and good and no more issues for a while
Then all of a sudden my A/H went off again and I got the message on my dash, I read the code and it was a C0253 - Steering Centering Error
Okay the steering was off to the right just slightly so I knew I needed an alignment anyway and a 4 wheel alignment for quite some time, so I scheduled that to get everything true and accurate - after the 4 wheel alignment was done the C0253 was still there.
Come to find out the SWPS was not giving any readings back when the steering wheel was turned - so I went home checked my books and went over the schematics and diagnostics and found out that I needed to test the SWPS and found out that it was dead - Yep! the new one that came with the whole set-up took a dump.
So I call Edwin so that he and Angel can schedule me in and change out the SWPS to my OE one that I still have from my original column - (I cannot do this anymore, due to the back surgeries and hardware in my spine) -
So this Saturday (2/23/19) Edwin and Angel come over, tools in hand and a Tech II and get the OE one installed and clocked correctly, believe it or not it at first was 360* off, and that is why having the Tech II was essential, Edwin was able to set the SWPS to center -0- and now all is good -
No more C0710 nor C0253 and my A/H is working and no more messages on the dash!
So thank you Edwin and Angel once again! can't say enough about someone who takes the time to come to your home and do the repairs needed and do them correctly -
Thanks,Matt

Yea, Edwin kicks ***. He really came thru for me a while back, and both my younger brother, and I plan to go back to have him install a centrifugal systems later on this year. Very trustworthy, and nothing but positive things to say about him.

Edwin had mentioned to me that he has also seen brand new SWPS's fail within hours after installation for one reason or another and unfortunately the one that came on the new column failed and since I had the OE SWPS it was easy to install that one since it was not defective - no harm no foul -
As I also stated I would NOT for safety reasons install or leave or even try to have the bearing pushed back up into the column, that would be a dangerous move and nonsensical, therefore what I have is the whole new column just with the OE SWPS which is fine
Thanks,Matt
