except the bad news is: registration fees are going up
I noticed that, but they did not say how much. Hopefully it will only be $10 or $20 dollars. That would be cheaper than a ticket and not give the police a reason o stop you for a minor viloation.
So when have registration fees gone down? It's ok, they are still lower here than in most states. I'd gladly pay twice the fee to get rid of the front plate.
To me, my Corvette looks much nicer without the font plate. I bought my Z06 in a state that did not require front plates, so I do not have one.
As for being stopped by local police, county sheriff's, or TDPS... Hey, if they want a closer look at my pride and joy Z06, check it out, visit about Corvettes... they can stop me anytime.
I've even volunteered it for officers to take out and test drive.
In addition, when I've been to Corvette gatherings, I've kept mine unlocked, stayed nearby and invited kids to sit behind the wheel so dad can get a picture of them. To me, being behind the wheel of my Z06 is a thrill. Sharing the thrill amplifies owning my Z06 to the thrill of a lifetime.
In the end, there can be only one... and the one is Corvette.
The Legend Lives!
Thanks for the info but after reading Section 9.02 I'll have to wait another year before I run only one plate. I've already shown the Judge my good looking front end and I just had my
registration renewed. I bet this makes the C6 owners happy.
ARTICLE 9. REDUCTION IN NUMBER OF LICENSE PLATES ISSUED
SECTION 9.01. Subchapter A, Chapter 502, Transportation
Code, is amended by adding Section 502.010 to read as follows:
Sec. 502.010. ISSUANCE AND DISPLAY OF LICENSE PLATE. (a)
Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary, including
Section 502.180, the department shall issue only one license plate
for attachment at the rear of the vehicle for which the plate is
issued.
(b) Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary,
including Section 502.404(a), a person is entitled to operate on a
public highway a vehicle that displays only one license plate if the
plate is attached at the rear of the vehicle. A person may operate
on a public highway a vehicle that displays two license plates if
both plates were assigned by the department for the registration
period as a set of plates.
(c) In any provision of this code that relates to the
issuance or display of "license plates," "plates," or a "set of
plates," the term means only one license plate.
SECTION 9.02. The change in law made by this article
regarding the issuance of license plates by the Texas Department of
Transportation applies only to the issuance of license plates by
the department for a registration period beginning on or after the
effective date of this article. For a registration period that
begins before the effective date of this article, the department
shall issue license plates as required by the law in effect
immediately before the effective date of this article, and the
former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 9.03. This article takes effect September 1, 2005.
OK, so does that mean that you have to have two plates until your next annual renewal (after 9-1-05)? Or, does it mean that if you were initially issued two plates, you always have to have two plates?
OK, so does that mean that you have to have two plates until your next annual renewal (after 9-1-05)? Or, does it mean that if you were initially issued two plates, you always have to have two plates?
No, it means that the state is required to ISSUE 2 plates until 9/1, and only 1 plate after that (assuming that it passes the senate and truly becomes law). The law will only require you to run one plate at the rear. For those of us with 2 plates, the new law only requires that we run one rear (or as of 9/1 LEGALLY run one plate rear). There will be NO distinction between plates issued prior to 9/1 still holding the 2-plate display requirement and the single plates issued post 9/1.
