News said it could make landfall as a cat3 or cat4 hurricane...grrr. Well, I'm stocked up decently on supplies from Gustav, and left-overs from Rita ;-) , so I think I'm going to stay this one out unless there is a mandatory evacuation order issued.

Hurricane Ike I don't have anything new today. It looks like landfall will be in the vicinity of Freeport which is a very serious threat to the greater Houston area. Here's what our weather team issued:

As of this morning, Hurricane Ike is forecasted to make landfall just west of Freeport, Texas as a strong category 3 hurricane. Tropical storm force winds are expected to extend out from the center nearly 200 miles, and will reach Houston headquarters by Friday afternoon. A hurricane the size and strength of Ike could produce a considerable storm surge on the Texas coast. The surge could be as high as 11-14 feet near where Ike's center crosses the coast and up the coast for 50-80 miles. Though the surge at Galveston Island may be in the 11-13 foot range, a direct hit just west of Freeport could result in a storm surge into northern and western Galveston Bay of 20-25 feet.

Kat and I are in a mandatory evacuation area but we're going to ride it out. Our neighborhood sits higher than most of the surrounding area, the house seems sturdy, and we have nice new windows that are supposed to be rated at 120MPH.

We have food and beer, games and beer, flashlights and beer, and beer, so we should be fine.

Will let you know more as I receive updates. Releasing my staff and leaving work soon to decide if I should board up windows and buy more beer.

Hey Vince
Sounds like you have all the right provisions!
We are stocked and ready to ride this one out.
Should be an exciting weekend here on the Hurricane Coast!

There are reasons it is good to brew your own beer. I am sitting on a goldmine of almost 20 gallons, 1/2 ready to drink, 1/2 pretty close.

The new windows thing is familiar, mine were installed in June...

We'll be hunkered down with two kids seeing what there is to see....

y'all hold on, it's gonna be a fun ride

I wish you all the best! I'm in Frisco Tx (a north suburb of Dallas). If anyone needs a place to stay, give me a call at 214-497-6954. I'm going to be hanging on, er I mean, hanging out at home all weekend.

Default Problems with Ike Already

I went to the store for supplies, and got to the beer and they had plenty of my beer "Corona light", I found a 24 pack, bought it and off to the house I went.

I got home, it was a 24 pack of 7oz beer....what do I do now??

I live just a couple of miles off the coast and i have speed rated windows too, however i've been putting up corrugated metal panels I had made for the house lust about 1 to 2 weeks before Rita hit, because 120 mph windows won't stop 120 mph 2x4's, and were i live there is plenty of debri that can come flying through my windows.
I'm sure Vince is in an area where that isn't that much of a concern.
Just finished putting everything away, Damn, i have a lot of $hit to put up. Took me and a few other but i think i'm done. Hope the Back 40 and my Cantina make it!
Oh, and I'm Ridin the storm out also, YeeeeHaawww!!

At the Back 40, a trip to the liquor store means resupplying back up.

didn't even go to the store for supplies on this one.

Let me know if you need anything, we are set up pretty good.... i think!

I was wondering how you guys were doing there in Santa Fe. I'm glad you got everything taken care of. Now let's just ride this sucker out.
